New Clone CD

CloneCD

Kent,

I agree with you. But until the laws DO change, we are going to have to get around things the best that we can. If they post a fix or anything else for that matter, they could be liable, since it is their software. It's like the encryption laws here. If you were to release something that had encyption in it to an outside country that was not supposed to have it, they would come after you like gangbusters.

I'm just thankful that there IS a way around it so we can use it. I plan on enjoying it while I can. One day, he may not be able to release it to us and he might have to make 2 programs. One with AmplifyWeak, for everyone but the US and UK, and one for us without it. I hope that day does not come, but who knows?

I try to copy Emperor disc2 with the new feature but dont work, all SD2 are the same?????? wich games (SD2) can copy???????

I have a Plextor 12/10/32s

Did you go in and pick the ProtCD.cdd file with the LOAD button at the bottom of the screen that has the settings? Load that file and it will set what it needs to for your recorder. And do you have the AmplifyWeak settings enabled? If it's greyed out, it's not enabled.

Here's a question...By changing your region setting even to Canada from the U.S. won't that affect things like the way your computer identifys currency? Won't it read in Canadian dollars as opposed to U.S. dollars? So will changing the "AmplifyWeak" registery setting be good enough for the fix?

No it won't change the currency settings at all. Windows handles dollars as dollars and doesn't care about the currency rate at all. Check your settings and you will find out that except for the exchange rate (which Windows doesn't handle anyway)everything is the same. Just make sure you set the time zone the same as where you live and you will never know that you have anything set to Canada instead of the US.

If you only edit the registry setting it will revert back on you to its original state. I have had mine on the new settings for about 2 days now and have not noticed any differences at all. I have a friend of mine up in Canada and I checked all of this out before I changed it. It works fine, trust me.

You are right that I hardly notice any different living here in Canada in the same time zone as now <g> except that in my e-mail, Outlook, the dates are arranged differently and it uses the European style of day/month/year instead of month/day/year. I just can't seem to figure out where to change this. Regional settings and the date section has it set the way I want it but it doesn't translate that way to Outlook.

Date Format

KenL,

Ok, here you go. Follow these steps exactly as I tell you here and you will be all set. :)

Go to the Control Panel.

Go to "Change the format of numbers, dates and times".

Go to "Regional options".

Go to "Date".

Next to the sample dates format there is a "Short date format" button.

Click that and scroll down to the setting that you are looking for and that fixes it.

(I never even really noticed the date format thing until you mentioned here. The wife was upset about the date not displaying right. Now she can be happy again. :))

Let me know if that fixes it. (I have Outlook, too, and I just checked it and the date is diplaying right now.)

Thank you so much. I actually thought that I had checked the date formats but I did what you said and it worked perfectly. Now I am a happy Canadian (dual citizenship of course) with the date format in Outlook the way I want it to be. ;)

What the heck, I do love Canada as my wife and I spent a wonderful vacation there in Montreal this summer and had the best time. Of course, in winter it will take some getting used to.;)

Glad I could help. I had to search for it myself. I'm glad you mentioned it. I use Windows Commander (the best file manager in the world. Makes Windows Explorer look like Outlook Express compared to Outlook) Anyway, the wife noticed the time date format was differnt in it and needless to say, she HATED it. It was either give up AmplifyWeak and keep her happy to get the right date format back or keep it the way it is and have CloneCD)
Until you wrote tonight and reminded me to go look at the format to change it, she was losing the toss. :)

I've never been lucky enough to make it up to Canada. The closest I've ever gotten was watching Bob and Doug McKenzie form the Great White North (SCTV in the old days). :)
I do have a friend who lives up there near you, though. He lives in Port Colbourne, near Niagra Falls (On the Canadian side). One of these days, the wife and I are going to make it up there (at least that's what I keep telling myself)

win 98se

Search on "amplify" In the cdclone settings directory you should see as the second entry amplify weak 0x00000000(0). click to change to 1.

OK, How About Windows 98?

I see that there is a workaround for Windows 2k and XP with the U.S./G.B. exclusion. How about Windows 98. I have tried Europe, Africa, and Canada and no luck...

Please help. I am running out of options here. I have bought 2 different burners trying to gain the ability to back up all of the CDs in my library for security reasons. Based on the info in this, and other forums, I thought I had it made. Boy was I ever wrong.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't understand and you did not say what your problem was. Did you have CloneCD Tray is your systray after a download and install? If so was Hide CDR media grayed out?

Then what happened when you changed your setting under Regional Settings in Control Panel? I had to edit the registry after even though I downloaded and installed CloneCD with my newfound Canadian citizenship.

Finally, the Amplify Weak sectors does not appear until you use the CloneCd software to burn a copy of a game or wahtever that is already on your hard drive. Then it appears as an option. Does it? Is it grayed out? Give that burning a try after you edit the registry for amplifyweak and make sure the settings for all copies are "1".

Hope this is somewhat clear. :D

I didn't know that the amplify weak sectors option is only visible after the reading & in the recording mode.
Thanks ! :p

Can you tell me what have you gotten ?
(sorry for my poor English)
HHEHE...I now know how to turn amplify weak on or off. The option is available in the Write mode.

i have not tested out if my cdwriter plus 9100i can copy sd2 cd. Has any1 tried it with this writer yet?

Many report that HP's and Sony's have problems with SD2 even with these fixes in the new CloneCD. A few have said it worked for them. So give it a try ASAP and let everyone know.:D

Thanks KenL

For the quick reply. I apologize for not being more articulate in my post.

The problems amd additional info are as follows:
1) I can find only one incidence of "AmplifyWeak" in my registry.
I have changed the "0" to a "1" there.
2) When I then search for either find next "AmplifyWeak"
or "Amplify" (as someone else suggested) I find no other
incidence of either.
3) When I installed CCD3.2.2.1 (downloaded from this site) I
got "error" or "warning" stating that I live in the U.S. and
that the Weak Amplify feature will not be installed. This
in spite of the fact that I have selected Canada in
the Regional Settings and rebooted prior to install.
4) The Burners are the Plextor SCSI 820 (1.07
firmware - which shipped with the drive)
and a TDK 121032 firmware 1.08.
5) The OS is Win98SE with the latest updates.
6) Yes the Hide CDR media is grayed out in the task bar menu.

Does anyone have the exact location of the second "Amplify" in the Win 98 registry? Is there any way to get the "Amplify Weak" feature to work in a Widows 98 SE environment?

Thank you,,,

I don't know why you got the USA thing when you started to download but I can guess because the only difference between us is that I actually uninstalled CloneCD and even removed it from the registry before I upgraded to this newest version. I then changed my regional settings to Canada, downloaded the newest version of CloneCD and did not get any such message. Then after rebooting, I went into the registry and changed the Amplifyweak settings. The second copy of which is at HKEY_USERS-Default-Software-Elaborate Bytes-CloneCD-Settings.

I think maybe the complete uninstall and clean re-install is the key that enabled me to get things working perfectly. I hope it works for you if you try it. My sense it that it will as I am running Win98SE too.:D

Look for 'amplifyweak' INSTEAD OF 'amplify weak'

Set your region to CaHere is a fix to the "amplify weak" option that makes it available to those in the US/GB.

1. Run REGEDIT
2. Perform a search for "amplify weak".
3. Double click when found, and enable by entering "1" vice "0".
"Amplify weak" appears twice in the registry, make sure you enable both.

or set your region to Canada in the control panel - the simplest way!
Instead of 'amplify weak', make the search request for 'amplifyweak', without the in-between space.

Just my $0.02 :)
