MenuModder now released for DS owners

Hello all, and thank you mackemx. I tried menumodder the other day, and even though I had the same render failure issues, it would show me the outlines of the buttons, and allow me to delete them. I tried it this way - view the menu item with regular player to see what the buttons were, then switch to alt player (modder) and delete the buttons I didn't want. The process finished, and the dvd played fine in windvd.

On the other hand this was a little time consuming (but what else was I doing anyway?). Mackemx's advice/hints on codecs worked for me. After installing a lot of codecs that messed up the system, and then restoring a clean install, I installed the free ac3 filter, and then the elecard codecs from the link posted. The result is a fully operational menumodder. gspot shows:

(S) -->Elecard MPEG2 Demultiplexer --> Elecard MPEG2 Video Decoder -->(R)
(S) --> Elecard MPEG2 Demultiplexer --> AC3Filter 0002 --> (R)

I am running win98 on an amd duron 900mhz, shuttle mk20n motherboard, if this helps.

Thanks to all the posts. I knew if I kept reading I'd find the help I needed.

@da5idzero, thanks for the feedback, at least you got it to work :)

@pak2, yeah, it may be confusing for some. It's a shame I couldn't pop round and sort it for you :(

@Rille, does it work? It's awkward I know but it can be done and again I wish I could help :(

I get the same errors as the other guys.
I have just tried the free version of dvdstripper/menumodder for the first time.

Excellent work. However, I also get the same render error. I am using a Nvidia Geforce4 MX440 graphics card. I have also got XP.

Very impressed with dvdstripper. At last I can use ifoedit for its more powerful features.

@nwg & DMagic1, welcome to the forums :)

I know the issue is a sickener :(, you could try using the Elecard Decoder package as that seems to work for some

I wonder why that works yet others dont?. I know its codec stuff and it may be awkward for some to get it to work

maybe someone who has a clue will soon come up with an answer to get it to work for everyone :), or the program may be modified to use specified codecs ;)

the new version of DVDStripper allows you to right click an item and select which player to play it with so switching doesn't take as long as before :)

so you could play it with a normal player as you normally would. When you find a menu you want to mod then right click the item and open it in MenuModder (alternate player). Before saving in Menumodder make sure you close the other player though as it will stop the file from being modified ;)

MackemX,
Does MenuModder use integrated player software, or does it use a third-party player that we could download and check compatibility independent of MenuModder?

Paul

@pak2, it just uses what WMP uses but it's a lot more trouble :(

installing the elecard codecs seems to work for most

Just wanted to say that installing Moonlight-Elecard MPEG2 Video Decoder v. 2.0 build 2510 also worked for me. :D I was getting the same errors like previous posts.

Initialization failure in InitRenderToSurface
Call to InitRenderToSurface failed

Here's the link > http://www.elecard.com/download/#mpeg2decoder

Unfortunately after installing, when I DVD Play in IfoEdit 0.95/0.96, I now get this error. :( I didn't have it before.

Warning

*1 out of 3 DVD-Video streams failed to render properly
-subpicture stream
* The video decoder doesn't produce closed caption data

Do you still want to continue?
Prior to installing, I had these filters for IfoEdit 0.95/0.96.

Found Filters for DirectX:

DSound Renderer
Video Renderer
Cyberlink Audio Decoder
Overlay Mixer
Line21 Decoder
CyberLink Video/SP Decoder
DVD Navigator

I had confirmed that my Elecard decoders were a problem with IfoEdit as when I renamed my "Elecard" folder in C:\Program Files\Common Files\ to "Elecard2", IfoEdit now starts DVDPlay with no errors.;)

Specifically, it was the "mpgdec.ax" file in the Elecard folder that was causing IfoEdit grief. If you temporarily rename this, like "mpgdec.axx", then IfoEdit would work again with no errors.

Through trial and error, I 've found that Elecard decoder, although despised by many, is the Swish Army Knife for Video on Windows. I have it installed since V. 1.35, as it was the ONLY codec that had solved my "video upside down and mirrored" issue in WMP at the time. Back in the DVD2SVCD days...
And I've had several PC configurations since then. Elecard was always the most versatile.
I've found that with it I can play whatever (well, almost) video file I threw at WMP .
Unfortunately, I also found that it ruins Ifoedit's DVD playability, as well as Maestro's preview. In the end, you have to decide what's more important.
For Ifoedit and Heavy-into-Maestro fans, it's a no-no.
For common users, it's a must.
My 2Eurocents.

@2COOL, thanks for the feedback :). I did get the player to work without using the elecard MPEG2 Video Decoder after using the filter manager but since 2 weeks ago I can't

@Arianos, you know what I think about elecard ;)

hopefully, something will pop up soon that will fix it for all

Poor little IfoEdit - I threw the Elcards out a long time ago. (prefere Cyberlink)
But it is a problem - see the long threads caused by DVDShrink changing to Direct Show and then bringing the "internal" driver back as an option...

cheers

Does MenuModder use ... a ... player that we could download ... independent of MenuModder?
@pak2, it just uses what WMP uses ...
MackemX,
I’m not worried about finding a work-around. The Elecard codecs would probably work for me too.

I was asking if there is a way to help diagnose by using systems that produce the error. Right now, MenuModder fails on any VOB file I try, while three versions of the stand-alone WMP will play the same files. If there is a way to isolate the player module as an executable, that could be checked on a problem system.

Just a thought,
Paul

@pak2, I don't know what you mean exactly. You can open a VOB using MenuModder itself. Click File then Open Video and it will attempt to play whatever VOB you direct it to

something is missing in another codec rather than the video codec I reckon, as I got it to work using my Intervideo Video codec

I'd love to know how to use specific codecs instead of using whatever Windows decides to use, similar to how Zoomplayer does it

who knows maybe in time we will work it out when I get more time to play or even get help :)

anyone know or is Blight (Zoomplayer author) around?
