Major Probs with new Liteon DVD Writer

At the back of your dvd-writer there is one little black jumper.

For this jumber there are three positions possible...master,slave,cable-select

maybe you will need a maglite ;)

You cant see any writing on back of Liteon but on CD rewriter one she can see it it set to slave, and looks as though Liteon is set as master judging by positions of the things lol!!!! I am confused too!

Cable coming from CD rewriter, wide flat grey one, all in one containing 2 yellow, 2 black, 2 grey, 2 red and single altogether single red, single grey single.

Cable coming from DVD rewriter, big flat grey one, and all in one 2 black, 2 grey, 2 red, 2 yellow, is this right??

yes..please check the connection of the flat grey one...are they plugged in correctly on both sides.

If you are sure that the master/slave settings are okay and that the wiring is okay too then you can close the computer again.

Not yet...;)..now you get the chance to disconnect the cdwriter to find out if the dvdwriter works when it's connected as single drive...

Okay we checked the hardware and we found nothing there.

Hmm now we have to check your software. (at the end we will use roadworkers driver advice..lol)

yep your right..i thought the same but i wasn´t sure that he can handle this.

1. Run "Nero burning rights"- last log line indicates you don't have sufficient privileges.
ftp://ftp6.nero.com/NeroBurnRightsInstaller.exe
ftp://ftp6.nero.com/CheckBurnRights.zip
2. Your ASPI seems wrong version, remove it and reinstall (preferrably 4.60.1021
3. Aren't those mastering settings you have used a mess?
Iso document burn settings
------------------------------------------
Determine maximum speed : FALSE
Simulate : FALSE
Write : TRUE
Finalize CD : FALSE
Multisession : TRUE
Multisession type: : Start multisession
Burning mode : DAO
Mode : 1
ISO Level : 1 (Max. of 11 = 8 + 3 char)
Character set : ISO 9660
Joliet : TRUE
Allow pathdepth more than 8 directories : TRUE
Allow more than 255 characters in path : TRUE
Write ISO9660 ;1 file extensions : TRUE

You should really use UDF 1.02 with joliet extensions for DVD, not ISO9660... you are NOT burning a CD. Also picking ISO level 1 would truncate filenames, and all assorted goodies. Also, forget that "DVD multisession" Nero feature once and for all- more harm than good. Simply leave the recorded track open until the disk is filled, and then close it.

Don't bother currently with the IDE configuaration... since both devices are recognized, its pretty obvious from the log that the DVD burner is secondary master and the CDRW secondaary slave. It might need to come back to that one if the elementary fixes fail.

For a cd the recording settings are okay !!

And aspi 4.71 should do it too--> XP (even when i use 4.60 too)

btw. nero doesn´t need the adaptec aspi layer ;)

@GLL
i would verify the result and would reconnect the other drive to make another test.

Indeed, but it's slightly difficult to burn a CD on Ricoh DVD+R medium... :D (likely stamped as Verbatim, as I've not seen anyone else stamping Ricoh media).

By the way I just noticed that Nero simply rejected the mastering settings, but it did not say it in a polite way:

21:11:03 #6 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 244
Last possible write address on media: 2295103 (510:01.28, 4482MB)
Last address to be written: 8507 ( 1:53.32, 16MB)

I don't think a DVd-ISO with just the leadin burned in (16MB, as above) is terribly useful... but besides the settings there is also an obvious communication error, which is not clear why it's caused- auto insert notification is on, but that alone shouldn't be a reason for such errors. Also, no suspect drivers are present.

At the beginning Roadworker pointed you to the device manager and to the ide contollers...look there for DMA settings....your liteon should run in DMA-mode and not in PIO-mode.
