In most progs there is a help menu(not the help file, but the link U click that takes U 2 the helpfile, at the bottom of the menu is usually an entry 4 About

Thanks very much Banzi - I will look now :)

Now this is getting freaky

It says I have PowerDVD 4.0 - but when I downloaded the update for version 4, it said there was an error - either I didn't have it, or something else that I cant remember

I will try it again and see :)

ok, after downloading the update for version 4, this is what I get:-

Severe error has occurred.

Either your PowerDVD version is outdated or your sytem does not have
a pervious version of PowerDVD installed.
Patch installation will abort.

 :( :(

Try uninstallin it, then reinstallin it from the CD U have, then try runnin the update:)

Maybe some of the files the player needs have been lost or corrupted, reinstallin might help:)

When unistallin it, make sure U delete the Cyberlink folder it will leave behind, then just reinstall

lol Banzi :p

I've just removed and reinstalled the power dvd disc and I tried my How The West Was Won dvd which played ok, but my DVD Genie isn't working. Thats ok, but the media player and real player still wont play dvds - they are giving me errors about the screen resolution which is set at 1024 by 768 pixels, I lowered it to 800 by 600 and this made no difference.

I'm now wondering if it might be worth taking off the media player and the real player and reinstalling them too

Well at least I can play DVD's on the PowerDVD, and thats something :D

That's great news snow_fairy:):):)

U might have 2 reinstall DVD Genie if U want 2 change the region code:)

I would highly recommed removin Realplayer, it has a habit of installin spyware & slows the sytem right down with it's phonin home all the time.Unless U really need it 2 listen 2 realmedia streams:)

As 4 Windows Media Player, i don't think U can remove that as it is built in2 XP, but they do have version 9 of it on the Microsoft site, U could maybe try updatin with the XP version:)

Im jealous, U just watched the DVD booo hoooo:):p

Knew U could do it:)

The DVD genie is still there, it just needs resetting. I need realplayer, cos unfortunately, it is the only thing that plays my music for me at the moment, Media player wont play them - it keeps saying I need a codec - but wont tell me what one I need  I've already got version 9 on, but I might goto the xp site and look for any downloads for it :)

Oh and Banzi - don't they have any copies of the dvd on kazaa? The dvd is fantastic - I'm not trying to rub it in or anything, but it is :D  - you will have it soon don't worry - it is worth the wait :D

Yep like VIPER says Winamp is the best 4 playin mp3's, WinMedia Player makes them sound as if U listenin 2 them in a tin can lol:p

Winamp is free & has loads of skins & plugins, i have used it 4 years, can almost guarantee that it will load quicker that WMP 2 :)

BaNzI:D

Cheers Bud:)

I got a feelin that some prog on her PC is muckin about with the file associations, maybe that why no other prog is playin them

@snow_fairy if U find that installin Winamp let's u listen 2 Ur music then ditch Realplayer, i would lol:p

BaNzI:D

Cheers guys :D

I will try that now and see how it goes

I reinstalled media player, but it is still doing the same things  I tried to play an mp3 and it said I needed codec 55, so I clicked on the link it gave me to the media player website, and it said there was no such codec! bloomin microsoft  :(
