Can't play dvds

Hi!

Ok for some reason, I am unable to play my dvds :( and I've no idea why - I am hoping you guys might be able to help, as Dell's helpline is crap :(

I was trying to play a region 2 dvd (Not a copy) And for these error messages when trying to play it with different programmes:-

power dvd says:-

DVD-Video playback graph could not be
buit due to insufficent decoders. (Error code 8004027B)

---------------------------

Real Player says :-

DVD Error

The DVD cannot be played. Key exchanges for DVD copy
protection failed.

-------------------------
Windows Media says:-

Windows Media Player is currently unable to play DVD video.
Try decreasing the number of colors displayed on your monitor
or decreasing the screen resolution. For additional solutions, click
More Information to access the DVD Troubleshooter.

Anyone got any ideas? I am totally stuck, and havent got a clue what to do here   :(

Many Thanks,
Michelle
ps - it is a samsung dvd player - I'm on Win XP home ed :)

Michelle, is it a DTS DVD (sound track)? Some older software DVD players may not support it and not have the codecs (coder-decoders) to play the disk..

What is the DVD title? I am in the US, but can play Region 2 (Corrs Video DVDs, 'Allo 'Allo DVDs) just fine with PowerDVD.

Oh, and is your Dell system's DVD drive set for Region 2 and not 1 (as if bought in the US instead of UK)? Check the Region of the Software DVD player as well.

hi,

Thanks for your reply :)

I don't think it was in dts, it was the region 2 copy of How The West Was Won (Led Zeppelin) I also tried a few others incase it was that dvd, but they are all the same.

The dvd player and software are all new - the pc is only 4 months old, and its played dvds fine up untill now :(

As far as I remember, there is a programme on the computer that will make the dvd player multi region, but I cant remember what it is called - do you think that might be the problem?

Many Thanks,
Kindest Regards,
Michelle

Just out of curiosity, did U do a system restore or install/uninstall anythin just b4 the DVD stopped playin??

If U still have the CD that came with the DVD, then try reinstallin the DVD software(powerDVD) or just run the player & then try 2 update it, i know that they bring out regular updates 4 that prog

Just givin the thread a bump as it the same problem that sixty9ers has, maybe some of the folk that are tryin 2 help her could help U:)

Hiya Banzi :)

I installed Kazaalite but thats it. I've not done any ststem restores or anything at all - I've got the cd that the dvd player came with, so I'll dig that out and try that :D

How do I update the dvd player though? Cos that might work :D

Oh and whats the sixy9ers thread?

Many Thanks,
Michelle :D

can you tell us what information disc info gives you get it from this thread >http://cdrbase.com/showthread.php?threadid=30535&highlight=drive+info

this will also tell you if you have any more changes left on your dvd drive as you are often limited to just 5 changes before the firmware locks you to one specific region :(

you may be country locked out and may need a firmware upgrade/hack to re-gain your regional settings /multi region compatibilty back :)

download the disk info tool and check your drive it will tell you how many changes if any left :)
and tell us in this thread what it says for your dvd rom drive :)

and maby we can find you a firmware upgrade if needed :)

Cheers VIPER:)

As 4 updatin the prog, sometimes there is an entry in the help menu that say's update, if not just go 2 their website & look 4 any updates. If U tell us the name of the Player software, then we can post a link 2 the updates here

Here is what that link said

DISCInfo is a freeware program to display hardware informations from and ATAPI/SCSI device under Windows operating system. Basicly what it does it that it sends SCSI commands to the device and retrives the information from them. The most usefull thing of the program is to show usefull informations about a DVD-ROM devices. It can check current region status. If the drive is region free it will state No Lock Detected but if the drive has region protection (RPC-2) it will show you the currect settings, like how many changes are left and curently set region. With the latest version program is also capable of using identified info about a CD/DVD drive to pass parameters to main firmware page and look for the firmware update files on it. It can recognise external USB/Firewire HDD/CD/DVD devices (SPTI access only) and for easy sharing of the files it enabled grabing the screenshots of the program and internaly save them to a file without any extra image manipulation tools.

History:

- 25.06.2003 - version 1.5.0
Added SPTI support for NT based operating system.
Added SPTI/ASPI menu change option to select one of the access drives if avaible in the system.
Added refresh menu option wich refreshes all the information (usefull when pluging external drives to recognise them without reruning the program again).
Added screenshots option to save the program window into PNG image file (for main window and capability page).
Added summay page wich shows all the details about a drive in a text field.
Added new Toshiba drive model recognition (SD-R6012, SD-C2412,...).
Fixed a bug with Toshiba drive recognition if the drive was not realy a Toshiba.
Improved SCSI drive detection (it's much faster now) and ability to view capabilities for those drives.
Improved capabilities page with new detection of +R(W) standard and other stuff wich are possible to read from the drives.

How can I find out the player software Banzi? Is it the power dvd? cos I've got that - sorry for being so unspesific, but I don't really know about dvds  :(

When U run the Player software, it usually says the name on the splash screen. If not then just run it & then select help & then about, this will give U the maker & name of player & also the build or version number:)
