Lore,

I found out a little more for you. Don't disable ACPI with your Mobo. If you do, you will lose many valuable assets like, suspend to ram, stand by, resource management...amoung others.

Your moving of IRQ and PCI placement will not help you until you reinstall Windows clean. I was reading a bulletin from M$ that stated once XP assigns a resource (to your Live for example) no matter of reassigning that item will work until you reinstall. Its a limitation of ACPI and WinXP which evolves every day. It was never fully realized in Windows until XP.

So the method I mentioned earlier may well work for you. It just may have to wait until your next reinstall to confirm it.

BTW, these new Compaq drivers seem to solve a lot of resource sharing problems with the Live and Audigy in XP.

cjaar... wow this is an old thread. I don't even have that sound card and motherboard anymore. :p

Have you tried any of the most recent drivers from Creative bud? This seems to solve lots of peeps problems with the SB Live cards.

He he.. my old thread, agreed, update to the newer driver
Creative stuff has always problems with drivers.. :D

@dxkim..

s i did tried... new drv for SB... a huge file of 26mb :).... but no luck... the crackling noise is not that frequent... but it annoys me!!!
I did check irq(22) for SB.... its not shared by any other drv

Looks like you looked through the thread as you looked for the isolated IRQ. Good, now I don't have to revisit that ;)

PS2 mouse or USB? PS2's are known to be a problem.

How well do you know your BIOS? Can you change your PCI latency? Consult your manual.

Sadly, there is no easy fix for this SB/Audigy popping. It can be several things, but is mostly related to a hardware and software compatability. Eventually I gave up and went with another sound card when I switched my mobo.

People,audigy 1 got problems usuallu!!..What i can tell you i had audigy2 for 2 weeks---Works as a charm---no joke--very good audio!!!

I have one.
its a pile of shite.
just like creatives support

If you´re already own a creative card like Live or Audigy series and want to use it with pro apps like Cubase or Gigastudio get to this site:

http://www.kxproject.spb.ru/down.php

This drivers take full advantage of the hardware and let you configure your card with pro like options, and at anytime you can go back to the older drivers if you need to (I will never use again a driver from creative)

Best way to handle Creative hardware is selling it and buying something else!
That´s not very helpfull but your right. I swapped my sblive and bought a cheap card with a c-media chip
