Who has an Audigy here? Working...?

re Audigy in XP

Not in XP but in Windows 2000 -- I found that it was easy to install the wrong drivers from the CD. What I do now is let Windows 2000 (or Windows 98, for that matter) find the drivers by itself.

What I see later in Win 98 is "Emu10kxMixer (B020)" and in Win 2K "Emu10KAudio FF80". The other drivers that were installed automatically by the Audigy CD didn't allow me to record anything. I also had to put the card into a different PCI slot (PCI 3 on a TUSL2-C mobo).

The recording quality (with CyberCorder 2000) is really good -- no detectable background hiss at all: total silence where there should be!

I have an Audigy working more or less OK in Win XP. I just have a minor issue with the media centre, when searching the hard drives for media files when it seems to hang (and I have downloaded the update with no improvement). I don't even install the media centre now and all seems well. I'm swapping the motherboard and processor tomorrow so we'll see if the change from AMD Athlon to Intel P4 makes any difference.

God I hate Audigy !!!
Need an Undo button to bring me back to the day I bought it !!!
I have all the fucking update for ev'ry single part of my pc and still doesn't work. Play GigaSampler and Halion samples and found out that sound seems a vinil (latency from 2 to 100 ms,the same). Some of you might tell me to buy an Echo, ok, but the incredible thing is that when I play a Mp3 sound desappear for a while, then back, then gone for about 5-10 times per song, next time it plays normally, next time same problem. It's driving me crazy and I'm going to go install my old Live which CAN play correctly mp3...

The biggest problem with the Audigy and the Sound Blaster Live!, is that they do not like to share IRQ's with other hardware. As REP found out moving his Audigy to another PCI slot helped relieve his problem.

Soooo, my best suggestion is to move this PCI card around so as to isolate it...or even better do it in the BIOS. My Audigy is all by itself on IRQ 12 through carefull PCI placement and BIOS manipulation. No problems at all ever since I did this.

 dump the audigy and go back to the sb live.
had one in mine for a month it played perfectly, only prob
was anything connected to my secondary ide port slowed
down , ie 16x dvd would only rip at 1.5 and hd was so slow it became unusable. tried every hardware , software combo
but just got fed up waiting.
also the firewire port didnt suport my cam.
now back to speed and happy with my sb live :)

Yeah I know it doesn't like irq sharing, mine is sharing the same irq 9 (as usual...) with many other devices, but I know that this fucking XP use ACPI...so what if I try to disable it ? I think next reboot would mean reinstall ev'ry device one by one, that might be a problem. Better if I do a clean install and put bios to "Non plug and play OS"....
If I change PCI slot would the irq change as well ? Mhhh...I think ACPI won't let me...
Do you know any other way to force to another IRQ without disabling ACPI ? 'cmon guys I don't want to reinstall the whole system !!!

Go to system properties> hardware> device manager >view-devices by type> and look at the IRQ tab. Looking at your IRQ sharing will give you an idea of what's changing.

If you disable ACPI, WinXP will probably have a cow.

Changing the PCI slot should cause an IRQ change. Just make sure to force an update (usu. force update ESCD in Mobo).

Most modern Mobo's allow manual assignment of IRQ's to PCI slots. This is the best way to do it.

Also check your manual. Make sure that the PCI slot your Audigy is in is not sharing with a heavilly used bus device (a hard drive or RAID controller for exa).

It's tricky and takes some patience, but you should be able to get the Audigy on it own. If not, you could always get a less problematic sound card. ;) Don't get me wrong...it's a great card...it's just a pain in the arse to get working.

What the f*ck...almost ev'rything is on irq 9 !!!
How comes ? ACPI settings is nosense, why does it put ev'ry device on 9 ?
Ok I'll try to force it via Mobo, I hope win xp will let me...
I've been givin a look to steinberg FAQ and they suggest to disable ACPI in XP...But right now I don't want to try it
Tnx alot !!! I'll let you ;)

P.S. My mobo is a via kx-133

I should clarify...many modern systems need ACPI to work with WinXP properly. You could try to disable it to see what happens though.

For me, it caused my stable Mobo to crash. When I re-enabled it, all was stable again. When I did some research on the Net...I found many people with the same problems.

Yes...everything on IRQ9 is going to cause you problems (especially the Audigy).

ack i was going to buy a Audigy because my Soundblaster live was giving me crackling sound im some apps in XP which was pissing me off, the updated drivers didint help.
youed asume Creative would have got their act togeather by now this is a big dissapointment.

Creative get their act together? Ha, you don't know Creative then. ;) Don't get me wrong...they do make good products, but they blame M$ for all the crackling.

The Audigy is IMHO, not that much better than the SB Live! The Firewire connection is not always compatable with all devices and the sound is only noticable on really high end speakers (THX quality).

Again, the IRQ isolation of which I spoke, is applicable to both devices. Because they do so much, they tend to be resource hogs. So isolating them on their own IRQ's will stop the crackling.

Never mind wot creative claim their s.c are mulitmedia s.c.
So any one who wants to use their pc for audio stuff and usin apps like Cubase VST, Logic Sonicfoundry Nuendo etc, etc should use a good quality soundcards like, M Audio Delta TDIF, Marc4, Terratec range I like de DMX6Fire 24/96 but den we come into de $$$$ £££. Don't get mi wrong Creative are good over all for wot they are...:D
IRQ 11 or IRQ 12 seems to do de trick for hi end creative (Live upwards) soundcards

Forgot to add...

Dump your PS2 rodent (mouse ;) ). The PS2 rodent takes an IRQ FOR ITSELF (bastard!). Its also notorious for causing some of the crackling.

It's one of the few devices on your system that keeps changing constantly (you keep moving it right?!). These constant changes affect the system bus. PS2 is an old Legacy device which isn't designed for today's modern motherboards. It's constant voltage changes are less forgiving on your system bus. Ever wonder why Apple removed Legacy for the MAC? Smart move! PC keeps it in for compatability, not for performance.

So what to do...use a USB rodent. Its on an existing IRQ already. Now you can use that saved IRQ for your Audigy. Best of all your USB controller is designed to be more bus friendly than PS2. Less strain on the bus!

Thanks dx, I didn't try yet cause I'm downloading 6 ISOz from eDonkey...and you know takes a while...
I'll sure try your suggestions when I finish to get stuff
Thanks again ;)

Who has an Audigy fully working in XP here ?
I have it on WinMe. Hehehe. LIVE is dead. Works fine as Dolby/surround and PowerDVD dobly.

You HAVE to go get the XP drivers for the software. It says so. They are not included.

Ummm, this posting puzzles me. You can't seriously be bragging about having what has long been considered (by experts, programmers, the press, consumers, etc.) to be the WORST operating system M$ ever put out?! Don't get me wrong...if WinME works for you, more power to you.

As far as the Live being dead, simply not true. WinXP comes with the drivers included on the install disk. Yes, they are buggy...but that's what updates are for. The updates fix most of the problems (with some of the creative finessing mentioned above). In fact, Creative will continue to release updates (albeit rather slowly) for the XP operating system far longer than ME.

If you are referring to the latest liveware CD that has updated XP drivers...its been posted on the internet (its about 30 megs if memory serves me) long ago. If you want this updated CD for WinME, you still have to download the new drivers or buy the CD at the Creative website just like the XP crowd.

Perhaps you are goofing around?! O.K., that cool I guess...but I would go bragging if I were you. The soapbox upon which you are standing, is not all that stable  :D
