Well I already remove every thing regarding prassi/veritas. I already tried uninstalling the Fantom CD, but I had to reinstall it for the antivirus and I can't open the attachment you just posted. I really don't understand, is it a problem with my computer's hardware. Is there anything I could do to help you help me fix that? I'll try everything, I'm desperate!

The program just couldn't find anything so I tried again a simulation with Nero and It doesn't fix anything. The device buffer in nero never fills, is it normal? I also remarked that windows tells me in Windows Task Manager that I have 523764kb of physical memory but that only 207324kB free is it sufficient to run a dvd writer or should I free some? I'm asking myself that question because the only time the writer seemed to write was when I ran windows in Safe mode. It was writing on the disk but with unconstant buffer percentages. If it's a memory problem, how can I free some?

your free memory should be enough for burning; i found this in your log file:

DiskPeripheral : WDC WD800BB-00CAA1 atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: Off
CdRomPeripheral : HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4167B atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: Off

enable DMA for both IDE channels in the device manager; then restart your PC and try a burning simulation; after the simulation, please provide us the fresh Nero log file (without serial# of course); :)

Well! I device manager it is writen "DMA if available" besides every IDE port. So I don't know why it's written DMA off?!

Wow!

You made me realize that I hadn't tried to burn with PIO ONLY. So I did in simulation and the simulation seemed to work, but the device buffer wasn't steady. It was ranging from 30 to 98 percent and changing every second. So my questions are: 1) Is the flicker caused by the fact that i'm burning in PIO 2)If so, how can I manage to enable DMA so that it will work, cause it seems to be the problem...

Thank you for your help... I'm sure you'll find the answer that will make that thing work!

Johnstar :cool:

1.yes
2.Heres a couple suggestions.
Uninstall the drive from device manager and let windows reinstall it
Uninstall the ide channel from device manager and let windows reinstall it
In both cases you will prolly have to activate dma manually in the device manager after.
More indepth info

:)

Oh, uninstalling the ide channel if your os is on it, is not a good idea.

1. don't know, as there are still Prassi entries present;
try to remove that stuff; read there please: http://www.dvdrbase.com/showthread.php?t=38984

2. follow the link provided by Bionic;
also i will attach a reg file to fix the DMA problem; apply the file, restart the PC and DMA should be enabled;

Your drive is in dma mode so this is good.
I think you should try removing the fantomcd thingy and try again, you can always install it back later.

Do you have a motherboard with nvidia chipset?

Well I have a QDI motherboard with an Intel processor and a Nvidia Mx 420 graphic card... I don't know if it will help you guys. I'll remove the phantom CD...

and the Prassi burning engine (PXHELP20.SYS) too; please reread: http://www.dvdrbase.com/showthread.php?t=38984&p=225892

there you will find:

first look for something like "PX Engine Update" in Add/Remove Software and uninstall it as usual;

second way is:
- setting the reg entry [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\PXHelp] Start = 0 to Start = 4
- reboot
- delete the file PXHELP20.SYS also delete the whole [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\PXHelp] key
- reboot
- download and apply these tools: http://www.nero.com/nero6/eng/Driver_CleanTool_and_RegistryChecker.html
- reboot

I've follow all duracell sugestions to uninstall pxengine and use nero clean tools, plus I found a firmware upgrade, so maybe some of this will work, haven't try a burn yet. I'll let you know. Thanks to all who answer. Course any other ideas are welcome
ponzan said:
I've done enough burns now to think the problem was solved. My feeling is that the problem was caused by the remanent pxengine driver, cause I never had this problem until I tryed RNM, last year.

tnx to everyone who participated and helped here

Ok, I went into Nerohistory file to get the info about the burning. The thing is, I realized that Nero didn't write in the file for the past trial. So I decided to erase everything in the file and to save it to be sure the infos would be about the last writing. But even after several trial, there is still no infos in the file! I would like to fix that first beacause as I can see, I can't give you relevent infos.

Second, After removing everything as you told me, It is still not working. The device buffer is never filling and the PC stalls at 1 percent.

Go news! I finally succeed in burning, but I can't read the disk in my dvd player. Here is what I did,
1) As you told me I removed every unnecessary things
2) I uninstalled Nero and reinstalled it.
3) I did a registry mechanic check up. I don't know if it did anything but I did it.
4) I reinstalled a newer version of my IDE drivers.

Now, I can write on DVD-RW (2X max) disk and read them on the writer, but I can't read them with the player. Also, when I try to write on the other medias Maxell DVD-R 4X and Sony DVD-R 8X, the device buffer is unstable. I didn't upgraded Nero yet because I wanted to test before upgrading, but do you think it would help?

I'm also posting the last Nerohistory to give you as much info as I can...

That means your recorder is scantly supported by Nero, especially if it's not fully MMC-3 compliant.
Try updating Nero (sorry but I don't use it, so I have no idea if a newer version is handy).

if its burning... nows the time to aquire decent media :)

try RITEK G05 forum favorite or Taiyo Yuden if you can get those ... i know scarecrow likes Taiyo Yuden and a few others do :)

with the media you have burn as slow as you can go and see if you can get a working disk :)

Johnstar said:
Go news! I finally succeed in burning, but I can't read the disk in my dvd player. ... Now, I can write on DVD-RW (2X max) disk and read them on the writer, but I can't read them with the player.
you did use crappy media CMC DVD-RW,
other times you used quality media = Taiyo Yuden DVD-R;

What do you mean with "Player" a DVD stand alone device or a DVD PC drive?
try to look at the player fabricators homepage for compatibility recommendations; some brands like +R media more then -R;

Also, when I try to write on the other medias Maxell DVD-R 4X and Sony DVD-R 8X, the device buffer is unstable.
I didn't upgraded Nero yet because I wanted to test before upgrading, but do you think it would help?
according to the Nero homepage they claim version 6 supports all existing and future drives natively;
anyway, try as scarecrow suggested and update Nero to v6.6.0.16, as i can't see other problems in your log file anymore;

Updating did nothing really, here is the latest try with the crappy DVD-Rw media. I'll try burning as slow as I can.
