Hi all,
I'm currently experiencing a sound problem and a google search turned up this site. Looks really good.
Besides solving my problem, there looks like a lot of good stuff here for creating a good HTPC/media station. As that's a current area of interest, I'll be lurking about!

Hi everyone. Just joined this forum, led here by a Google link. I'm from Colorado, USA; main interests tend toward digital and film photography--advanced amateur level--, and lately into ripping, copying, burning DVD's. Looks like I can learn a lot here, and I'll certainly contribute whatever I can.

newbie here in bonnie Scotland, my sis in law bought a mini dv camera and wants to make dvd's instead of video, she is not very good with her pc so she has very kindly paid for a dvd burner for my pc the down side is i have got to work out how to use it any advice would be very much appreciated! I would hope through time to maybe be assistance to others but first I need to suss it out for myself

I'm buzzer and I joined just a couple of days ago. A total newbie at DVD copying but thanks to the really excellent advice and tutorials I've managed to backup a DVD first time. Thanks to everyone involved in putting the guidance together - a really excellent job.
I used DVDDecrypter, DVD Shrink and Nero 6 to do the final image and burn.
Currently running with a
Dell 4600 3.06Ghz
80GB HD
256MB DDR333 RAM
NEC ND-2100AD

Well I'm Tre. I'm a 25 year old male with brown hair, blue eyes, tall... err... wait ;-)
I'm new obviously and full of newbie wonderment (is that a word?). I have a BUSlink DVRW412RD, which I believe is really a LiteOn 411S (and win2k thinks so too). I've flashed FS0F and now FS0J so far. I can't seem to get ECD 4.0 (yes, it's archaic but I'm working on an upgrade) or Acoustica, Direct CD... etc. to recognize it as a burner. I know it's a DVD burner too but I wanted to test it's CD abilities first. My HP CD Writer 9100+ also has a tab with read/write speeds,etc. as well as the DCD tab... my 411s does not. I've done Kprobe and it pulls up that it's able to write CD R/RW, DVD+/- R/RW's and the whole 9 yards. I've uninstalled and reinstalled ECD, DCD, and Acoustica about 20 times to no avail. I'm sure someone here knows exactly what I need to do here.
To recap... I have:
AMD 805MHZ
384MB PC133 RAM
Windows 2000 SP3
