Forum to be renamed!

how about HomeBase? DOH! already taken!

my favourite was CDR/DVDRBase.com as the forum name & Graphic, very similar to the page title but then also having both CDRBase.com & DVDRBase.com links working would be cool, so no matter what your interest is you would always get to this great site :D

Our original name of CDRSoft to me brought an association of Software used with CDR's. Our name change to CDRBase as we went warez free and occured overnight without almost 1 comment. Its name suggestion that this is base (or home) for anything CDR. We all know we are a bit more than that (We have General PC and Hardware sections, etc). As time has moved on, there is now a popular advance ment of the CDR, the DVDR. Its backward compatable to CDR's so any mention of DVDR's also includes CDR's as well, but with time it will be to a lesser degree. Console games are now all DVD based and soon the mainstream PC games will be also. On the movie side, DVD's are defenitely mainstream with very little VCD/SVCD being discussed these days (I know, I answer the questions!). Unlike VCDHelp going to DVDRHelp, that is a pure MOVIE orientated forum only and has just matured, like ourselves.

CDR/DVDRBase is just to complicated and a URL with the "/" in it cant happen anyway. The simpler the name the better as far as I'm concerned and to reflect the current situation. In a few years time we will probably be the BlueRayR.com :D

Just my thoughts.

We will keep the old domains as well ..
They do not cost too much, and I am working on other things as well ...
Something that was annouced some time ago ...

Anyhow .. thanks fly out to MackemX, brought up the whole idea about renaming !

Thanks mate :)

looks like the progress is in action already lol :)

darn that son of yours woody!! lol he works fast with an instant logo change and the sub title of the forum explains the rest of the forum ;)

Im sure that N.B. will not have a problem with the redirector no real urgency to change bookmarks/favorites at the moment :)

as long as it gets you here :)

hehe maby we should just give it a short redirect name N.B. mate we could just have it as "theonly.com" then there would be no mistake as people will just come to "theonly" forum thats needed for anything cdr/dvdr related lol ;)

or perhaps not lol ;)

i have a soln:
cdrbase.com redirects to the cdr forums, dvdrbase.com redirects to dvdr forums and a new domain eg urknowledgebase.org (or .info - tis for sale btw) directs to the main forum
:)

Personally I think the change from CDRBase to DVDRBase is just a copycat of what everyone else seems to be doing with their forums/sites. If there is to be a name change I think it should be something a little more different and transitional.
That's just my view/take on it and I know it doesn't matter much lol.
The main thing is not the "name" though, but the "content" that will bring the people coming back... or not coming back lol.

Why change the name??
Well let's face some facts shall we?

CDR is all but dead! When a company like Plextor states that they will never again produce another CDRW drive you should know straight away that the days of the CD are all but numbered. They have moved with the times and so have we. They will still continue to support CDR with their DVDRW drives and we as a forum will still continue to talk about CDR too.

This forum has started to pick up new members at an amazing rate per day since we have taken on board more DVD talk & software/hardware issues. Before we started making these changes the forum was on it's knees, it was all but dead with nobody online. We are now the fastest growing DVDR talk forum on the web and that is a fact! We only need a couple of thousand more new members to overtake CDFreaks on member numbers, that in itself is an amazing achievement. Just look at the numbers online at any one time, 183 people viewing the board as I type. Fantastic is that! Less than a year ago I visited many a time when I was the only one online. :(

Time moves on and so do we. We will support and embrace every aspect of new technology here at "DVDR"base.com for many a year to come yet.

Hey, who here still uses a 386 and runs Windows 3:1 after all? :D

We move ever onward too with the forum! ;)

Amen :D

But all jokes aside. I thought the forum was going to die when you guy said no warez. I'm glad to see it didn't but I agree cdr's are on the way out. :D

There have always been many people viewing this forum.....search engines see to that. ;)
The true story of a forum is how many members are online....recently around 10 to 20 only.
This is not a criticism of this forum as all forums are having a hard time.
The simple truth is that most people can copy 99% of any software or game or movie with a one or two click programs.
Its just too easy for the average bloke to get satisfactory results now.
Its the specialist forums..such as doom9, where the real interesting stuff is found.
I never thought I'd say this, but I miss cdrsoft forum!
If only NB could restart that again.....

Dave, not true on the member counts. Here is a sample from Digital Digest forums.>There are currently 11 members and 677 guests on the boards. | Most users ever online was 828 on 09-03-2003 at 03:28 PM.

A search of Doom9 just revealed about 52 users online,and 192 guests.

Both are specialist type forums with advanced dvd topics. Many members will just post when they really need help. Most visitors can find what they need without signing up.Most forums are the same way. We're just happy when people sign up,or find something useful here. ;)

We're not limited to Dvd topics,we are a PC forum. We are now beginning to concentrate on dvd, because that is what people are interested in.We won't specialize in dvd like Doom9 because we want to have more to offer our members.

Cdrsoft forum was great in it's heyday, but doubt if it will ever be revived. The legal ramifications are not worth the risk.N.B. was doing huge amounts of traffic with no way of paying the bills,he carried on for as long as he possibly could. The warez thing bit him in the ass.

You're right though..One-click solutions are the "in" thing, most people don't want to wait hours for results,if they can get acceptable backups in minutes. In the 'old' days it took lots of work, time, and different software to make a dvd backup. The learning curve was big,and at times frustrating.Things are much easier now.

rite woody...doom9 is 2 specialized 4 me 2 set foot there as a member :D
may goes the same thing @ amdmb.com forum, where there are now 133 members & 129 guests & which is most oriented towards cpu & motherboards
This forum is more generalized & is better 4 newbies 2 come to learn something....;)
just my 2 cents ;)

Yep, at the end of the day we are one of the busier forums of our type on the web.

I've been at what was always in the past the biggest and most renowned CDR forum on the web for a few years now as a Mod - CDROM-Guide.com. We have IIRC 111,000 members.

However......

We are far busier here at DVDRbase.com forums and *always* have more people online at any given hour of the day. Facts & figures are not for all folk I understand that, but they do at the end of the day prove to a certain degree how popular a site is. Only a fool would deny that. ;)

There are a lot of smaller forums on the web that would give their right arm for traffic like ours! :D
