if you don't want to use ur files in real dos mode (booted from a floppy) than i'd recommend using ntfs !
sure there is a way to change the filesystem:
partition magic can do it, or perhaps there is even a prog in winxp to do that. just do a search on partition magic in this board and you will surely find something

Yeb!! I agree. PQ7 is the best. Personally I use FAT32.

File Systems can be changed without formatting the partition. Win 2000 has a built in command "convert" - I would assume that this is also available in XP.
Syntax is as follows:
"convert c: /fs:ntfs"
BTW, I don't believe you can convert BACK to FAT32 if it goes pear shaped. And remember, you do this at your own risk - don't come running to me if you lose everything

its done now , changed from fat32 to ntfs without formating or loosing any data .
my winxp pro actualy boots quicker than before , and it was quick anyway !!!!!!!

I've done it before it works okay.
Click Start , point to All Programs , point to Accessories , and then click Command Prompt .
At the command prompt, type the following, where drive letter is the drive that you want to convert:
convert drive letter : /fs:ntfs
For example, type the following command to convert drive E to NTFS:
convert e : /fs:ntfs

Got a question folks. The reason I'm still using FAT32 with XP is because I can always boot with a DOS floppy and do stuff in dos from the HD like copying, renaming, deleting files and running stuff from the HD but with Windows Command Console, it's pretty restricted. Would converting to NTFS v5.1 and then using something like NTFS DOS Professional from w*w.sysinternals.com actually give me the same functionality if the HD's are all NTFS as I did with FAT32. Anyone have the registered version of NTFS DOS Professional? Thanks.
