DVD Shrink - FREE Rival to DVD2one!!!

Sorry for posting such a stupid post, but I'm the newbiest of all ppl here I think ;) I just tried this freeware, but I don't know what to do with those .VOB, .IFO, ... files. Do I need to burn them as ISO with Nero or CopyToDVD for example ?
I read the tutorials but I don't think I read something about this

Hi bud..here it is from the user manual.Hope it helps!;)

Finished

If you get as far as the Finished page, congratulations. You have finished copying or re-encoding your DVD, and DVD Shrink did not find any errors. The final output size and a list of the output files is displayed for your information. Please confirm that the output size does not exceed your DVD target size.

What Next?

You can now use your DVD burning software to burn the DVD. Make sure you burn ALL of the output files, or the DVD may not be playable. Also make sure you burn a DVD video disk, not just a data disk with these files!

Note: the output files must be placed in the root VIDEO_TS directory of the target DVD-R video disk. For compatibility with all DVD players, there should in addition be an empty AUDIO_TS directory. This should be done automatically by your DVD burning software.

I've had a couple of goes now.......
Ripped movie only.
Quality seems identical to dvd2one.
But the cost is condiderably less. :)

if dave says quality is good THEN QUALITY is GOOD i trust daves word :D..

and daves a very PICKY man when it comes to quality lol :)

Disclaimer note:- he did not say it was the best but no doubt its better than other software currently out there that costs more than FREE ..... lol :p ;)

I've tried dvd shrink 1.02 on a couple of DVD's. One had a movie of 5gig long, the other 7.4gig long.,

At least the product works and does what it claims to do but on the 7.4gig movie, quality was not even up to DVD2One quality and a long way off CCE quality, which is what I use for any bench mark. The 5gig movie converted also fine and very similar to dvd2one quality, difficult to tell then apart. But both still not quite up to CCE qaulity.

But considering the price ( FREE !!! ) I'm sure there there will be many people finding it suitable for their DVD backups. Its options leaves all the other contenders for dead as well. I'm sure with a bit more tweaking, it can equal the existing one-click conversion software currently available.

Yep I agree CM, it does tend to suffer a bit on the longer movies.

That's the one thing I still use IC7 for, but on films under 6 GB I've found it to be excellent and better than DVD2one on many films.

What would you recommend for an absolute beginner, CM mate ?

For example, I'd like to make a back up of my Red Dwarf DVD's - 3hrs of episodes plus bits and bobs added.

For the episode type DVD's I find Instant Copy 7 hard to beat Phil, when you are processing a full disk of say 7.5-8 Gig then the quality does suffer when using DVD2one & DVD Shrink.

IMHO Pinnacle IC 7 (Now they have sorted all the bugs out) is as close to encoding with CCE as you can get. In fact it's the ideal prog for episode DVD's IMO. ;)

Personaly I've found dvd2one, IC7 or DVD Shrink making unacceptable copies of my TV episode disks. One may work on one but then horrid results with another. I want something that works EVERY BLOODY TIME ! so I use DVD2SVCD w/ CCE for all my episode DVD's. Takes a bit longer (but hey ...) but if your after is blocky/grainy/pixelated versions then you might as well convert to VCD or SVCD or even DivX.

I must say that IC7 has given the best TV eps backups as far as I'm concerned but to variable. I've just downloaded their latest 7.1.1 update, installed but at this point I have not tried it out.

I've just finished Band of Brothers using CCE and with original menus etc, the results are stunning compared to dvd2one & IC7 conversions of the same.

@ Chickenman ... it HAS to be at least better than some of the conversions out there available damn ive seen some so called DVD conversions and to be honest ive seen better cinema CAM rips and they can be terrible :D

I like DVDx 2.2 personally but whatever works best for you out there then USE that if you are happy then why change :)

and like you say chickenman in time this could be a damn good program with positive feedback and input things can only get better each build :)
