hi guys !!
for now just wanna say :

Symantec.AntiVirus.8.0.Corp.Edition
it's a brand new release ...

cheers

AVG works brillantly on my pc, tried norton 2000/2001/2002 and had to reformat to 'really' get rid of them and their tendril like effects. I tried the free version of AVG and then the trial version etc. It saved me a few times and unlike with norton updates no problem and updates are free, always. :)

I have a dual boot system using win98&winxp. In winxp I used at first Norton av 2002 but after a lot of troubles I had to change. I look here and choose one of the recomended AV, in this moment were F-Secure, AVG and PC-Cillin 2002 v9.02. I decided for PC-Cillin becouse it scan all incaming POP3 mail. But the story is a "neverend story", becouse I install a PCI network Ethernet card to connect an ADSL modem. Under win98 no problem at all, PC-Cillin goon working great, but under winxp the realtime monitor didn't start when windows start. So I decide to test other XP compatibles antivirus, and I search for those that scann email. I test panda antivirus titanium but didn't like it to much, to simple, you can't configure anything, I test panda platinum, it's seems to be more complet but you need a registrated username and password to update antivirus definitions. I test Kasper antivirus but I found it very slowly. At this point I decide to use F-Secure 5.40. I found it terrible fast if you compare with previous versions and with the other antivirus mentioned above (except PC-Cillin), the autoupdate antivirus options works great, and I surprised to see that the updates are practically every day. I don't like that it doesn't scan mail, but the real time monitor works great, so If a virus is send by mail you have to delete it manually (the antivirus delete from the temp directory when you open the atached virusfile but don delete the atach itself). I would have to test AVG to get a complet evaluation of the recomended AV, I promisse I'll do next time I have to reinstall xp.
I read about NOD32 is a great if not the best antivirus but same problem of panda platinum, without being a registrated user no liveupdate available.

been using nav 2002 with my xp home ed, for a while now, and yet to have a prob! the program updates take a while though.

Norton worked well for the first six months with my XP. Then disaster! Constant blue screens on boot-up - some Norton kernal attempting to gain access to places forbidden. Have moved over to Bit Defender Pro - works beautifully, faster and, I assume, offers at least an equal virus defence.

Nobody mentioned AntiVir from Germany

h++p://www.free-av.com/

Very good alternative as it catches a lot of viruses

Antivirus

Sophos works well no false positives, low use of system resources. And its free, well you need to download 8megs once a month but I suppose you could buy it.Email alerts of new threats very fast.I used to love Kapersky Labs but it doesn't like my setup Sophos is every bit as good

Never had a problem with Norton 7.61 and 8.0 CE versions; won't touch the commercial (like 2002) versions, though. The Corp Edition never expires, either. Works in 2000 sp0-3, and in XP sp0-1 so far.

ipdave, isn't NAV CE a hog on resources? I remember installing for a customer and it need so many components installed just to manage it....very complicated if u ask me. Or is that another version u have?

Hello bertieg

I managed to get f-secure today..(server problems) I did update my last message..lol have been looking for a serial number all night...No luck yet.
Still got problems with Xp and my dvd & cdr drives...it will not open them ot run ..unless igo into my computer and run properties - hardware etc... then populate the drive...it seems to work then...funny eh??

Any help would be welcome....

Mike
this s/ware doesn't check the e-mail as the nav does!

Jamest,

NAV CE in unmanaged mode does not need a central system center, so is just a client. Our company uses it with no problem on NT 4 Workstation, NT 4 Server, 2000 Pro, and 2000 Server. If you really want to centrally manage it, you don't install all those components on every client, just on the central LiveUpdate System Control server.

I use it at home on XP Pro. Never run out of resources. It catches just about every virus, and updates are pretty much daily - the LiveUpdate is updated at least every week, but you can go to the web site and manually update every day if you are really worried. I do.

ipdave, thanks for letting me know. i had assume that it need the server for updates like netware servers. going to check it out for xp since it can update direct.
