I don't get it. I'm running XP and Norton Corporate 2002, and it works fine...no problems at all. I did disable live update because it disturbed some games if it popped up while I was playing.
I used to be a Norton devotee until 2 weeks ago. I've found that F-Secure finds more viruses and takes up less system memory.

I've heard that NAV Corporate 2002 is better than Standard, but I'll bet it's still not as good as F-Secure. Below is a link showing the effectiveness of various AV...and F-Secure was on top with PC-Cillin comming in 2nd. This is why many of us like F-Secure more.

F-Secure 5.31 sucks

guillaume and everyone else.
Hi I am new to the board and was looking for a different type of anti Virus besides Norton.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news :( but, F-Secure 5.31 does not work on WinXP home edition. The damned computer kept re-booting, the installation went smooth as pie, but it was trouble there after.
Try uninstalling something that reboots each time you got ready to click on uninstall
Took me a while but I finaly figured out "hey blondie, disable it and try" WA-LA that did the trick and made me one very happy camper :D
Guess I will stick to my Norton's, at least I know what it does and what it doesn't.

I was really hoping that it worked after reading the great reviews. So sad to bad it didn't though, a real waste of space and my time trying to get rid of it... LOL it was like a trojan....

Sorry to hear about the problems with F-Secure. I hear it's pretty good at its job. Maybe there'll be an update for it in the near future to make it compatible with XP.

That's what irks me, the one I downloaded from their Home page was "New" especially for WinXP. Go figure huh??? If you were to ask me, I don't think they did enough testing before putting out the "New" for WinXP and if I had paid for this proggy I'd be more than madder than a wet hen. LOL Sorry I am trying to find a bit of humor in the whole thing now...

Actually dude, its not F-Secure that's the problem...its Norton AV. Norton is well documented not to uninstall all of it parts from your 'puter. So when you uninstall and try another AV...your 'puter freaks and you blame it on the new AV. Out of frustration you try Norton again and wala...it works. In my opinion...Norton is doing this on purpose to keep you a long term customer.

I'll bet if you did a clean install of Windows (without Norton products) F-Secure will work just fine. If you do a search on this forum you will find that this solution cured a few other conflicts with Norton AV and other AV's (like F-Secure). Its worth a try as F-Secure is easier on the system resources (Norton's a resourse hog) and catches viruses far better that Norton AV.

I didn't have any Norton's installed, that'a why I was in search of something new.
As soon As I installed F-Secure on a Brand new WinXP System with "NO Protection" it kept re-booting by it's self. I finaly had enough time between reboots to disable F-Secure and then I un-installed it. I have always used Nortons in the past and like I said I was looking for something new, I know what a resource hog Norton is but all in all it has kept me well prtected over the past six years quite well, thank you.

I had a chance to put AVG 6.0 on and that seems to be doing a good job. What your opinion on this one, if I might ask?
This isn't the free ware it's the full proggie and registered.

I am using AVG free edition. It works just fine on all 3 of our computers.I have set the scheduler to look for updates and scan daily. It is an average virus scanner. There are better, the biggest fault is it is slow with updates.

The key to any virus scanner is to update regularily, and scan regularily.(you probably know this already).

I'm using XP on all machines..BTW.:)

Thanks Woody, I did notice that it also is really dreadfully slow at doing the fully system scan but I can only compare it to how fast Norton scanned the whole system.
Either way I'm going to use AVG and give it a good chance to prove it's self to be either as good as Norton or worse than Norton. I will be fair in my judgement so far I like what I have seen though..

AVG

I've been using avg free edition for a while now and are very satisfied with it. I usually visit the same sites and am not a heavy surfer. I haven't had any problems ever. Am running now Winxp Home edition.

F-Secure has absolutely no problems under XP if you use a stand alone installation. The only issue is some dogfights with IE6, you have to shut down IE before killing a downloaded malicious script/trojan.
And have in mind that all good programs for XP (eg the stunning O@O defragger) came out LAST.

Forgive my stupidity here but what do you mean when you say that O&O defragger came out last?

@ Wedge.I think he was just stating that better programs came out after the official release of XP.;)
