I haven't seen any problems with SP1, just don't get SP1a. It doesn't have the Java Virtual Machine, because of the whole court ruling, monopoly thing.

I used to be an adocate of not installing XP SP1. But a few months ago I gave it a whirl on my Sony laptop (which was giving me some troubles). Not only did it fix the problem, but my system was a lot more stable. Not a single BSOD since in fact.

So now both my PC systems run SP1 without issue. I created a Slipstreamed XP CD w/SP1 and various drivers integrated for a quicker less painfull installation for each system. Instructions are in many threads here on the Forum (including a very good recent one).

In the end, its up to you to decide. Every system is a little different. Some will benefit from SP1, while others wont. Give it a try and if it works for you, go for it. If not, go back to plan A. ;)

Of course, if you are connected 24/7 to the net and don't apply the Security Fixes, etc that are in the SP, you may get hacked. I prefer to keep up to date and own my own system.

If i`m your old friend, you would be here much more often,my old friend master!!!!You would be here to see how Woody is doing a good job--guiding this forum with other admins, you would see that Cm has enhanced his tuts--so they are better then ever,You would even see how Laz speak german, and that i bought a new sound card-----which is a real kick-a.. card--btw:) :) etc.etc....:)

Runs fine on a PIII800 (no recent updates).
A Toshiba Satellite portable (Celeron 1100+ 256MB RAM) had SP1+all recent updates, and run like an AMD 486/80 Mhz with 4 MB RAM...
It must be due to some "bugfix" later that SP1.

So install sp1 for start and wait for rest to grow yp??a???Btw,anybody knows how to import my favorites from cd to internet explorer6????Saying that i have to be admin to do thaat???

Favorites are in the folder /documents and settings/{username}/favorites, and no, of course you DON'T need admin rights for that one, you can do anything you like in YOUR profile folder.

Yep, its a simply copy and paste job zver. Put 'em where scarecrow said. I back mine up all the time so I can transfer them between my 'puters. Simple

In IE, click on File > Import and Export, it should open a wizard for you to do import or export your favorites.

cheers,
