XP SP1 Question (pokopiko, please look inside)

Hi!

I downloaded sp1 for Windows xp, and to my surprise the eula did not have the auto update clause, hence it was removed!

Is it safe to use sp1 now?

I'd appreciate a response :)

Why SP1 ?

I still haven't installed SP1. I don't see a need to as long as I have the critical updates and security fixes and have no major issues with the current installation.

What functionality would be added if I installed SP1 that I can't do without it?

Wedge Hello!

Hi

I don't think you should install sp1 if your system works properly and you have all the security patches.

SP1 is useless. Just installs a bunch of new problems/bugs.
If you look around more closely... more people have posted problems since they installed SP1.
All the security updates you need you can just download from their update page (but choose carefully what you decide to install).

I guess I'm getting tired of repeating this same statement (should just copy & paste this in my notes for future use lol).

Some people though always like to install the latest stuff... thinking it is better.

sp1 works just fine. your sn# has been blacklisted that's all, & needs to be changed to another sn# for the windows update to work again.

I love it when people don't understand something, then run around the net screaming about how terrible/buggy the s/w is....

Don't bother telling me I'm incorrect, because the only way that could be true is if I'm imagining my xp-sp1 *faultless* 24/7 box here.... ;)

... I had to use my Ghost restore to remove the crap after a couple of days.

xp-sp1 is fine. I don't need to have 4000+ posts on this board to know that.

sp1

Well, the question is... was that auto update clause really removed, or not. :)
I can't let any MS dude have admin rights on my pc :)

TYT SP1 is not fine, just the usual crap MSN releases lol (full of bugs).
Sure it works fine... as does winXP (though many find it buggy also). Nothing is as bad as winME but the relevant use/uselessness of actually needing SP1 is also the question as it offers no benefits over XP without SP1.
If it works fine for you great, and we are all pros here at getting good keys that are not blacklisted lol (think we've probs been around the block longer than most).

Anyhow as always the question is: should you upgrade if everything is working fine as it is? Guess everyone has their right to decide for themselves.

shadoe my old friend that´s wrong !!

The question was: "is it safe to use SP1 now " ;)

I say YES..even when poko and you have a different opinion (as ever) :p :D

" Nothing is as bad as winME [snip]"

My god shadoe I couldn't agree with you more about winME. I truly beleive it is even more problematic than win98.

"but the relevant use/uselessness of actually needing SP1 is also the question as it offers no benefits over XP without SP1."

Then why bother with it? If you have all current security updates then what is the point of installing SP1? I hate to seem as if I'm beating this question to death, but so far I have read nothing that specifically applies to my needing SP1. The best answer so far has been "general bug fixes". I'm not experiencing any bugs that prevent me from doing everything I want to do on my computer.

"Anyhow as always the question is: should you upgrade if everything is working fine as it is? Guess everyone has their right to decide for themselves."

I can find no reason to do so. For me, the answer is no. If I find something later that doesn't work as I know it should then I'll give SP1 a go. God man, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Master my buddie, I don't disagree with what you say. I only wonder if perhaps you have noticed any improvements since installing SP1?

well

I think I'll make a ghost image of drive c, and I'll try installing sp1.
too bad that there is no clear answer about the eula stuff.
thanx anyway!

I actually know how to use a computer. And how to set one up properly. Oh, and I'm using decent branded equipment.

Guess what? *suprise*... winxp-sp1 works like a charm.

(Webserver 24/7, router for my adsl and two other computers in the house ...and 'general use' gaming/browsing box.)
