Hi, I hope this is the best place to my question.
I have xp, Its ok, had win me.
But I have noticed it takes xp ages to shut down sometimes i can wait for upto a minute.
This is really annoying, is there anyway for me to make shut quicker?
cheers

yep just limit the amout of proggys that start when windows start, you can run msconfig and also do it through the admin tools, if mine has alot of stuff in memory it will still only take 20 seconds maximum.

btw welcome to the forum bud :D

8-10 seconds about 90% of the time.

I have enabled fast shutdown and am not clearing my page file at shut down (I do that when cleaning my system of cache, cookies, etc. and warm reboot... East-Tec Eraser 2k ;)). Athlon XP 2100+ running XP Pro SP1.

50 sec on an Athlon 800 multiboot system.....:D
Clearing pagefile, clearing temp internet files, cookies, documents list and all other stuff that can be cleaned...:p

Yippy!!!!!!!
I am happy to understand that some of you can obtain such high speeds when shutting down.
I am a windows me user. How can I reduce the number of programs that start, and at shut down limt what is done?
I also would like more information on clearing files etc.
Thansk for such a warm welcome!!!!!!

Hey codezs, welcome to the group!

As far as "clearing files," I use East-Tec Eraser 2002. It clears all kinds of security/sensitive files like Internet cache, cookies, your paging file, those pesky .dat files, etc. I like it better than Webroot's Window Washer, but that is a good alternative ;)

I don't remember WinME having a "enable fast shutdown" but, getting rid of unnecessary TSR's will help. You can get to those by running "msconfig" (Start >>> Run >>> msconfig >>> >Enter> key >>> Start up tab ;)). If you are unsure what to turn off, post what tou have running and we will offer you the advice.
