XP Pro Slow after SP-1 Install

Does anyone have any info on fixing the slowdown problem some have encountered after installing SP-1? One thing I read about it was that MS had a fix, an updated NTDLL.DLL, but that they wouldn't post it, and would only e-mail it to you. Another thing I read was to uninstall hotfix Q811493. Has anyone else encountered this or heard anything about it?

winXP patch 811493 issues

I've uninstalled this patch, less than an hour after having installed it.
Concerning the SP1 itself, I've not been affected by any slowdown problem.
I've made some changes in the registry by hand or with the help of XPAntiSpy, stopped some useless services to improve the performances of my system.
I'm pretty satisfied with the XP SP1, since september 02.

Some XP and 2000 security patches are badly implemented, and cause system slowdown and very long bootup/shutdown times. It may not necessarily be the update sergio mentioned- just try to uninstall all bugfixes following SP1 (which had numerous problems, but not any linked to slowness) and see if it gets any better.

Thanks. I see there were quite a few people that had trouble with the patch, apparently anyone with antivirus software installed. Patch is gone, speed is back up. Thanks again.

Are you a DirectCD or ECDC user maybe???

I've got same troubles as you have when I installed latest update for ECDC (I use only DirectCD from that package). Update version is v5.3.4.21. It slowed down my WinXP Pro SP1 abuot 500%

After that I deinstalled DirectCD and repaired Windows installation booting PC from WinXP Pro SP1 CD, installed DirectCD v5.3.1.154 and now everything works perfect.

Happy Easter to you and all forum members:)
