Wont write above 4x

I have LITE-ON LTR-52246S ( 52x24x52 ) and for ages Ive been able to burn at 54x but now it wont let me.
I can only burn at 2x or 4x, also in my computer it shows that I still have a cd in that I burned a week ago (Its not in the drive).

I tried removing my cd-rw from the device manager and re-installing it but still no luck.

Any Ideas appreciated

Have you done a virus scan? I have the same drive and about a month ago had the same problems. I did everything to try to fix the drive (drivers,aspi,software updates,registry fixes) and nothing worked. I finally had to do a total rebuild of the system to fix the problem. Try the few things I just mentioned and see if you have any better luck.

Just virus checked m8 still no luck !

Im gonna try :

1. Removing the drivers
2. Shutting down and removing the cd-rw drive.
3. Boot back up without the drive in then shutting down
4. Connect the drive and restart.

I will let you know what happens, It might be a few hours as Im downloading.....
