WinDVD 4+ problem

I am needing help on this one in WinDVD 4+. Please don't tell me to try PowerDVD. It doesn't apear to like some of my SVCDs that I have downloaded. The sound doesn't has so good quality on it. It gives escelent sound on WinDVD 4+.

I don't get correct 5.1 decoding in Dolby Digital material (the center chanel apears to disapear or gets downmixed very bad to the fronts and rears, at very low volume). The TEST button of the program that is on audio setings doesn't work correctly either. I have noticed that if I turn off all the acceleration for my video card from the video settings page I can get better support from DVDs with DD5.1 tracks, but I still cannot run succesfully the TEST. Just hear the front L and R and the center, nothing else, and the TEST apears that it gets blocked or stoped after testing the center.
I have selected 5.1 speakers in Windows as indicated in the FAQs, and have selected 5.1 on the Creative Surround Mixer. I have all the EAX disabled and have my speakers (Cambridge Megaworks 510D) connected to the SPIDF of the sound card (they don't have an external decoder, they permit just digital connection with the Audigy). I have selected 5.1 speakers in the WinDVD audio settings, no Dolby Prologic and no other effects.
I have XP pro and an Audigy player card. Have Geforce3 Ti200 from Gainward and an Athlon 1800+ with 512 RAM.

Thanks!

There are some issues with winDVD 4. CM (our grand expert on movies) has gone back to version 3.1. Perhaps you would be wiser to do the same (until they release a fix)

Damn! I hate to install and uninstall programs. I love the feature of time streching on Windvd 4!
So I am not the only one with this kind of problem?

Can WinDVD and PowerDVD be installed at the same time in a Win XP system without problems?
I still think thet WinDVD helps me more with my SVCDs than Power DVD

i fixed a lot of problems downloading the latest version (WinDVD4 Plus v4.05.43), now i can use DTS and hve no probles with Dolby decoding

And from where did you download it DJPAX? I only found WinDVD 4.0 plus in this website. And could not find any patch on Interviceo's website.

get the demo from the intervideo site & use the search button at the top to find the keygen.
The demo on Intervideo site is not the PLUS version. I am suing the one that is on Cdrsoft. I I install the demo over the plus I think I lost the PLUS features that includes DTS decoding. Is there not a way to have the plus version updated, or the full updated version of the plus?

According to this page (_hoop://www.intervideo.com/jsp/WinDVD.jsp?mode=new), Standard version will have no "Gamma Correction" ability.

I use Web DL version from InterVideo, I can tune the "Gamma Correction". But I don't have any hardware to support Dolby system, so I can't test this for you.

If the table is right (Gamma Correction is Enable), then the file DL from the Intervideo Web is Plus after you reg. it. Maybe I am wrong, just write down my situation for you... ;)

adelies is right about this one. The demo on Intervideo can be any version of 4.0 depending on the registration info you use on it. I've used the following registration info and when I right click on the player's controls and then About WinDVD. The window is titled About WinDVD (Plus Version) with the following info:

WinDVD Version 4.0
B05.043C00.4198.06BDTIH0S

and it does show Dolby Digital, DTS, SRS TruSurroundXT.

Yes, I have used this information before for registering. Thanks Almighty1, this was the info on the version posted on this site.
I have uninstalled and installed the demo downloaded from Intervideo, you are right, it presents the "plus version" in the about dialog. However, it didn't help my problems. The player works perfect until I check "Use hardware decode acceleration" I have measured the CPU utilization and this really helps (around 33% without acceleration and 25% with it). I can check "use hardware Color acceleration" without problems. With hardware decode I get totally screwed sound from multichannel DVDs and from tests like the THX sound test from the X-MEN dvd or the Video Escencial Dolby Digital tests disk.
Have writed to Intervideo's support. Let's see if they have something to say.
I definitly prefer the sound output of WinDVD over PowerDVD. It is much better specially in SVCDs. In PowerDVD I can hear hiss from some SVCDs that I have downloaded from the net, while they give perfect sound on WinDVD 4.

thorz,

Are you using a NVidia video card by any chance since hardware accleration breaks in powerdvd xp from what I was told. Not sure about WinDVD4. Seems like WinDVD4 has the better Picture quality and louder audio volume.

Gainward Geforce 3 Ti200 without overclocking it. Using WinDVD now without acceleration (just using color acceleration). The strange thing is that the video plays ok if I use hardware decode acceleration, it is the sopund that gets affected, it loses the 5.1 sorround capabilities. I lost central and surroound channel decoding, they get downmixed totally diffused and at low volume in the other channels.

Is your soundcard on the PCI slot directly beneath the AGP slot by any chance?

No, that slot is empty. I know it conflicts in irqs with the grafic card. Still waiting for some light in this one.

Hmm, which motherboard are you using since some slots do share IRQ's especially if you have a HighPointTechnology RAID controller on-board.

I only have 2 PCI cards, the SB Audigy (IRQ5 forced) and a 3Com nic. Both are on not shared PCI slots. My board? Asus A7V266-E. I have the last via drivers and the last XP patches. None of my programs present any fail with sound. just WinDVD4+
