I wonder if anyone can help, after changing the activation key in Win XP Pro as told in the forums, and then applying the leaked SP1 update my computer refuses to reboot into windows, and it will not let me get to safe mode either.

I used the key generator to generate a valid key with the 640 pid and it seemed to update like a dream until the service pack anyone got any ideas what has happened

Thats the type of reply I expected, surely its common sense to reboot. But the computer hangs.

change your video card. mine did the same thing till i put in a new card. actually it was older. for some reason, it does that. let me know if it worked.

Have you tried restarting your pc with the xp cd in your cd drive?
you may need to enable boot from cd in your bios

i had the same problem this fix it

bootup in savemode then do a System Restore to the time wend you did the up date ,an then restart the pc. now the do the key change again after that you should be ok it work for me hope it does for you ok

Thanks a lot everyone but im afraid none of the solutions worked. I reckon I will have to wait for the finished SP1 as the leaked one wont work on my system.

If you would use a more descriptive subject line in your post then I'm sure less people would click out of curiosity.

Secondly, what on earth is your question about? "after changing the numbers as told in XP ", I thought you were changing the CD Key but then you go on to say you have a valid serial and activation code so you're obviously not using a Corp XP.

So, please - tell us what the problem actually is.

Sorry for the confusion, I am using XP pro with the old key, I have now changed the key as explaned in the forum to a new one as the old one is now deactivated. Everything went like a dream until I installed the leaked SP1. My machine will now not reboot it freezes half way through the startup.

The key I am using now is a key generated by the xp key generator and has the valid 640 pid.

Any ideas

It might be the SP which is still beta.I'd suggest you to uninstall it (if it's possible) and wait the final release of SP1.

Its a hard lesson too learn in life, never ever use beta software, look where it got you? Wait until the Final release is available, but let others do the donkey work of testing it, on a test machine, once its been given the all clear, then get from a working link and install it. Its a valuable bit of advice so keep it in mind next time you decide too download beta software again OK

b.t.w I am still using the banned key and recently went too the MS site and d/l the new updates and my pc works fine! I guess I am one of many who are lucky

Been there done that

. Simply re-boot and press F8, your PC will boot to a menu. Select last working configuration and then re-boot. Ta-Da!. Hope this solves your probs, (my first post, newbie).
