Win XP has issues with some drivers even tho they were sposedly made for XP.. i was having the same problem and came accross this after some investigation i found the culprit to be the drivers for a 56k modem thats in my machine..... but what i did find out was there have been known issues with some nvidia video drivers and some soundblaster drivers along with a few modem drivers that cause this problem......see if u can find updated drivers for ur devices and go from there

I agree with johnny it could very much be the driver because u have had the same problem and it turned out to be my LAN card.
Had Mecer sort that out 4 me

dude i suggest a ram check.

use this program to check your ram. i had this problem and it was ram related. the ram wasn't faulty but my motherboard didn't properly support the ddr ram. it might not be the same problem but you might have a bad module and once it hits the bad area - kapow!

i went back to win 98 and all seemed fine until i discovered that 98 wasn't using the extra ram in the machine!

hi,

firstly you don't need to run xp to test your memory. it works from a boot disc.

secondly, unchecking the box described in the post above does not make the error go away 95% of the time, it simply replaces the rebooting with a blue screen of death.

i still recommend checking your memory with the util as its possible all your memory is not being resourcefully used in 98/ME.
