Windows NT 4.0 Workstation Uninstall?

I have a laptop with Windows NT 4.0 Workstation. This guy wanted me to Wipe it out completly and install Win 2000 for him. The password the guy gave me don't work and I called him and he don't know what it is. So I'm trying to just reformat from boot disk but i dunno how. I found this stuff called fdisk.bat and delpart.exe i dunno how to use eiter of them. I want to learn how to do this since i dunno how anyway. Please Help ASAP!

If you have a win98 floppy handy and the laptop does have a floppy drive, just boot from the floppy, do "fdisk", and delete all partitions. Then perform an "fdisk/mbr", and everything should be gone. You can also get aefdisk (www.aefdisk.com) and insert it in the diskette- you can now use "aefdisk/delall" and "aefdisk/mbr" saving much of the input with the MS fdisk. In fact, aefdisk should also be fine with an XP/ME bootdisk (their fdisk utility does NOT have an option for the /mbr switch).
Now boot from the 2000 CD, which will allow you to make new partitions and install 2000 on the laptop.
Just a warning though, 2000 may have issues with particular drivers for the laptop- you either have to keep some EOM driver diskettes handy and at bootup hit F6 and when prompted throw in the diskettes, so the drivers would be loaded and installed, or use XP, which are a worse OS, but have a much broader driver database.

Clear the master boot record of the harddisk, where the previous OS has "signed" when installed. Might not be 100% neccessary, as 2000 will overwrite the MBR, but it's better keeping the place clean...
Remember to disable any BIOS MBR write-protection before doing all that.

which win 98 boot disk do i need? I have all the bootdisk for all windows and Dos
Either Win98 or 98SE should be OK. Using fdisk is rather easy, after all you just need to delete the existing partitions, creating neqw ones is easier done during the Windows 2000 installation.
Alternatively you could use the bootdisk just to do an fdisk/mbr, and then use just the Win2000 CD to delete the old partitions and create new ones.
