windows media player video help

How can I do to edit and/or convert to other video format (like avi) the windows media player video files. Is there any software?
I tried using virtualdub but a message appears saying that from version 1.3d it's not more supported this function becouse of Microsoft license problems.

and download graphedit.
Convert your file but take care !
It wil stay "special" avi.
So you have to open it with virtual dub, and save it as a normal avi file.

What you need is VirtualDUB ver 1.3c (or 1.4c) that supports Windows ASF files. You can d/l a copy from _http://www.apachez.net/ look in Tools section.

Just load in file, set Audio to Full processingv mode and for compression, select appropriate MP3 format, For Video set to Full Processing mode and for compression, select the DivX codec you wish to use and set its Bitrate. Then in File, hit Save AVI. You will now have a standard DivX shortly.

Virtualdub error message

I downloaded ASF versions of VirtualDub (1.4c and 1.3c) and an error message appears when I tried to open wmp file, like this "Couldn't locate decompressor for format wmv2 (unknown)"
I'll try graphedit but I like virtualdub so I would like to solve this problem

"Couldn't locate decompressor for format wmv2 (unknown)" - obviously a slighly different or later codec needed.

Try graphedit, I have never needed it myself. But also try ASFTools, it can fix and convert WMV (and ASF) to DivX also. Get it from _http://www.geocities.com/myasftools/ I have used this a couple of times with sucess.
