a little explanantion of installation errors would be helpful.....its kinda hard to know y it wont install without knowing what part of installation its quitting at...... one question tho? r u formatting with the oem system discs or r u trying to install from a bootable cd of XP?

no probs here either

i have two hd 40gb each, primary has two partitions c+d.
c has me
d has downloads
secondary has xp pro
using system commander as boot manager and everything works a treat
im sure ive read threads on this forum which actually tell you exactly how to do this
incidently ive set up 5 different systems to do dual boot and had few probs on any

if XP was installed first u cannot install 98 on any other partition on the same drive....XP will not allow older versions to be installed on top of it...... without using a boot manager such as system commander.... the only other way of doing it is to put the older windows on a seperate hard drive thats connected to a seperate ide channel...... then choose from bios which drive to boot first... System commander is easier

Hi

I succeeded using partition- and bootmagic 7.0 .

I first installed win xp pro and partition magic on the first partiton .then I made a new primary partition using partition magic( on the same disk as xp was on).

First I did a reboot, so that partition magic could finish it's scripts. I ignored all drivemapper messages.

Then I made the new partition the active one and hide the xp partition.

After that the system tries to start from the new partiton. if you use a bootalbe install cd you can install win98 on the new partition. XP is unreachable during this phase. After installing win 98, install boot-magic. Now you can choose wich OS you want to boot. Both XP and win 98 are visible to bootmagic I did not notice any interference from the other OS. If you have a bootmagic bootdisk and installed XP on a FAT32 partition you can choose on wich OS you install bootmagic. If you use a NTFS partition you can't, you can only install it on the win 98 partition. If you used fat32 you can choose, using a bootmagic bootdisk or a win98 bootdisk. with the win98 bootdisk you can make partitions active using fdisk.exe

Partiton magic and bootmagic are easy to find (try fosi)

if u had used system commander u would have eliminated the need to make a new partition and setting to boot from that.. system commander creates the new partition for u..... but more important it makes the O/S think its the c drive so there is no need to change the default directories when installing new programs to the second O/S it would have done it for u all in one simple step.... dont get me wrong patrition magic has its uses but for this particular action system commander is the best way to go
