win disaster

Half sleeping and trying to remove a virus....not a good mix.

I've just deleted the WIN.exe / RUNDLL.exe files from my computer and windows will not load reporting that win.com is missing.

I can't find any rescue discs due to moving house soon.

So can anyone help restore my pc without losing any info?

You're going to need a bootup floppy AFAIK.This requires your OS cd.Anyways,a google search found this. And this

Download a good free DOS antivirus (f-prot) http://www.f-prot.com/download/home_user/
and definition files:
http://www.f-prot.com/cgi-bin/get_randomly?fp-def
http://www.f-prot.com/cgi-bin/get_randomly?macrdef2

put those on floppies/CD (virus def are bigger then 1.4 MB so it won't fit on floppy sp youll need it on cd, thats sad...)

I managed to get a copy of the win.com and rundll.exe files and ran

copy a:\*.*c:\windows in the MSDOS screen (command prompt only)

Working fine

I think my old copy of FSecure might have been the source of the virus (those where the days) ....still investigating.
