which Nero version is stable?

Ok well did some testing on the latest version 5578 & seems to be ok (only if you do an update & not a fresh install). However I find the quality in how Nero is writing, seems to be getting grainy or something (picture quality). Maybe it is just my eyes going bad from too much computer use lol, but IMHO, I think best to just stick with these versions:
5551/5564/5569

I haven't experienced the same complications as others have, but when 4 out of 10 people are having troubles with a particular version (& I mean trouble with actually making a data or track CD or something legit, not installation troubles, or hacking mpeg2 layer), best to stay away from it.
Hardest thing to do for some people is to not get the latest software. Updates/newer versions aren't always better.

Hope this helps.

T.M. (test methods)

1)Lord of the rings vcd compliant mpg to VCD, checking takes longer & appears to me that some picture quality is lost (small speckles/grainy in a few little areas from time to time)
2)Writing of bootable CD, works ok with win98, but win2K can have error or missing file (not able to write inf files well I think)
3)Overburning, works fine with mp3 files (able to get 1 additional song. About 3.20 minutes over)

Not enough time to test anything else (& no inCD installed)

I can confirm the 5551 is the very good one. I had hard problems with the later versions, as they didn't continue the multisession data disks. Even the 5572 does it again and the 5578 seems to be quite good, too. The only problem is the 5576 and later don't accept some old serials, so it need not to be possible to upgrade simply. But there is a keygen for the 5578 on this site, which cheks for the blacklisted SNs. Also the old MP3 plugins don't work under the newest versions, but they are also new plugins available on the site.

5572

Ive got an Iomegazip 12/10/32 that I done the Plextor firm ware patch on (Plextor PX-W1210A) and a Pioner DVD-rom 114 with the latest firmware. The Nero 5572 Is screaming in speed department with these two drive and with the burnproof I haven't made a coaster yet (knock on wood) It's done a great job on VCD SVCD to. Before I was averageing about 15 to 18 Min at DAO. Now its 6 to 10 All I can say is I'm impressed

yup...

and the conclusion is.....

5048
5551/5564/5569/5572/5578
and what about the 5504/5520/5553/5573.....

hi, currentyl i am using nero 5.5.4.0 with Yahama CRW6/4/16SX, win98SE, athlon 1.4

the only problem i encountered is i cant burn any CD at x2 speed. other than that, everything is fine.:D

I'm using Plextor W124TS (12-4-32) with the Nero 5578 under Windows 98SE without any problems, but I've found there is dangerous to leave run too many progs in the background concurrently (schedulers, virus scanners, system watches or so on). Some collision between the progs can simulate the buffer underrun (there is no burnproof in my drive) even with buffers are full of stuff. What does the burnproof in such a case, it would I like to know...
BTW, I found the installed RealPlayer access the registry every second, even if it is "stopped". Better to exclude it from the startup (by msconfig), but it stalk into the startup again by the next using.
