Which CD-Reader???

If the 106 are not avaible perhaps you can find the older 105 or the 115 I had both for almost 3 years on different pcs and they have provided excelent work.

On the other side if you don´t like the idea of buying a past model then I recommend to wait for the new pioneer and meanwhile use your cd-rw as a reader.

No, no, I was trying to say that the 106S is out of stock... At last I found by luck some 106s drives ang kept one for me. The drive is magnificent but it has a very weak point: IT SURELY CANNOT READ SUBCHANNEL. What should I do? On the other hand it's an excellent DVD and CD Reader. Should I keep it, or replace it with a Liteon LTD-165H or Toshiba 16x48 DVD??? I think that keeping it as it is would be most wise since I own a TEAC 40x Reader. But the fact is how long will the TEAC last so as not to worry about...

For TEAC there are very diferent opinions out there some say it last very well and others say it doesn´t as for my own experience the 540e wich is the model I have used it´s a pretty reliable unit and it has been working for at least 12 hours a day during a year and haven´t presented any problems (even I like more the Plextor 40x (px-40tw) scsi ) so I think that as you are right now I would use the Pioneer for general porpouses and the TEAC when reading subchannel data is needed, this way the TEAC may last even more.

Yes, that's really clever. Nice one. I will go for it. My 40x Plex died after 2,5 years of use... The 32x TEAC I had and sold to my friend, died also and it was not hardly used. But the fact is that all Pioneers I used (and use), did never ever cause problems. My 32x CD-Rom DR-A04S is still working fine after 5!!! years of hard use. My DVD-U03S still works after 1,5 years of hard use (at both DVD ripping and CD/Audio readin and Extraction...). But this doesn't mean that TEACs are not as reliable as Pioneer do... And perhaps I may belong to the few that would claim that they are disappointed from the 40TS Plextor performance and stamina. my 32x Pioneer has surely do much much work during these 5 years I use it... Any way, time will show how things will go ;)
