Which ANTI virus software do you prefer !?

i currently use nortans anti virus 2002 edition but it uses to many resource threads (approx 36 threads apparently !? :( ) errrrk and hogs my system :( and im looking to preplace it with somethin less memory intensive and resource hogging !? but it has to be good none of this trojan only cleaner programs !? i want as good as nortan and i want it to scan my emails on receipt and on send same as nortan does now and also one that can detect script virus executions same as nortans !

thanks in advance for any information !

:D

VIPER_1069 most people here have been converted to F-secure after it was highly recommended by one of our members. It is a mighty fine proggy and not a resource hog like Norton .Some people have had progs updating database but I have had no probs with it.If you run win XP get v5.31 as it is designed for XP.

[i use ontrack system suite 4 the anti virus package that comes with this programme is the best i have tried much better than norton

okay will look into f-secure sometime soon lol busy answerin stuff in forums lol ;) will hav emore time when i get my darn Adsl LOL 4 days and counting lol !
:D :D :D :D

none
i never had a problem with any virus and i think i won't get one in the future, because i know what i'm doing, i know what i execute, i know what is my system and what is something dangerous, and if there is something i know how to remove it.
i just use my own brain to protect myself, i don't need those "want to be brain softwares" :)
i'm also interested in the techics of the viri, i have a folder where i colect some different types, i think it's really interesting, how some lines of code (activex) that runs in ie can write a file on the hd and execute it. or just how to run a attached file in a email in outlook express

eTrust EZ Antivirus, formerly called InoculateIT PE.
Very few resources asked (and just 710KB of RAM!!), updated daily, it's never let any virus/worm infect my machine!
Great! I highly recommended it!

bertieg,

Some people have had progs updating database but I have had no probs with it.

The proggie itself works fine, but after installing F-secure twice on a machine running XP Home build 2600 any game based on the Quake 3 engine cannot get past the start up console.. and if it does, crashes loading any level..

Has anyone else come across this problem.. the games had been installed previous to F-secure.. and were just about the only things on the pc apart from video and sound drivers.

As an offshoot, being an ex Norton user, I keep expecting bells and whistles, now, having a virus prog that just *sits there*, on the task bar, quietly.. creepy. :)

Norton 2002

I use norton 2002 and it kix arse Fsecure goes crazy on my machine as for being a memory hog i dont even notice it I guess it;s because i have alot of ram :p

Imaginos a bedtime story for the children of the dammned

Well I use VET, a local product that is not well known in the northern hemishere. Not resource hungry and leaves Nortons, McAfee and F-Secure for dead. Local magazines rate it above these 3 for finding and eliminating viri.

What I did

Hey after reading all your post I decided i would try som different scanners on my machine.

First I tried the Inoculet EZ what ever thing.
and my version kept asking for the licsense but it was there but would not take it so I ditched that one.Second I Installed Mcafee and found out it was utter crap it slowed my system down to a mere crawl.Last I installed KAV 4 the one they used to call AVP
and it seems to work better than anything I have ever tryed.
I'm am now glad i learned that Norton was such a resource hog because if I had not I never would have tryed the KAV that waas mentioned here.

re..

1. CA etrust inoculate it/vet suite - wonderfull low resaurces av
2. norman virus control - excellent trusted av
3. f-secure/f-prot classic quite app,you can't feel it's there and very low system demands.only problem is with it's upd un trusted internal method (connection problem) and it's heavilly pop up 'backweb' system is absolutelly out off question.

Ok, before doing another world-antivirus-war
go take a look on this page hxp://www.av-test.org/

almost every AV are tested.

joripe: i have been waiting for it to come and destroy my pc for about 3 years but all i got in emails or on wep pages were so cheap that i found them before they could do anything ...
if you have a good one, send it to me :)

My Fav is NOD32 from Eset Software. Very small memory print, top in the tables on every AV test and looks as cool as you like :)

I use the trial version which is only valid for 25 days but usually before expiry I've had to re-clone my comp ;)

Fortitude - no AV could be very risky. A lot of new virii do not require you to run anything and are auto activated. No matter how careful you are they will still get in and you may be shafted. Saying that, the fun of rebuilding your PC and explaining to all your mates who contracted it via e-mail "that you knew what you were doing" should keep you busy for a few days :D
