Where are my files?

Hi all.

I got a 80gb HDD, Windows reports that the HDD has 28GB used, i can only find about 7GB of files, is there any programe that i can use that will tell me where all the file locations are on the HDD.

Thanks In Advance.

go to explorer...right click the drive..then go to properties...and then tools....check the disk for errors...see if that dont fix it..if not is the HDD partititioned...if so...it may be hidden...and you can use Partition Magic

Serjer, I am using XP Pro.

Jroc, I already tried checking the disk for errors and it didnt fix the problem, the HD is not partitioned.

Damm, so annoying.

I had same problem. All I did was empty recycle bin, there was about 40gigs of crap in there, dunno if this is the same scenario but I tried! :D

I would also check the size you have allocated for virtual memory /swap file :) im not sure how you set a swap file in XP !? but in 98SE you right click my computer then choose system properties then choose the performance tab then the virtual memory tab :)

Hi all thanks for your replys.

serjer, NTFS.

Wayfaerer, Ye i looked in the recycle bin, nowt there.

VIPER_1069, I1ll have to check this out.

Duracell, Yes I am using Norton Unerase with norton Utilities :) emptied the files now down to 16Gb used, thanks Duracell.

Try this, Tools, Folder Options..., view, now un-tick 'Hide protected operating system files(Recommended).
Open the C: drive and you should see some folders lighter than the rest and you've not seen before. ie System Volume Information.
Drag over these revealed folders and right click, properties.
You will probably now account for the missing space, these folder are for system restore and some other stuff like all the porn sites you've ever visited.
This will account why it's so large. lol

I didnt realise how much HD space System Restore and Norton Protected Files in the Recycle bin take up, thanks for all your help guys for pointing me in the right direction.
