What prog to track system changes when installing softs?

Not sure the best forum for this, but I'm running W2k, so...

Any recommendations for a (preferably freeware, or else commonly available) program that will list changes to the registry and dlls installed when I install a new program?

I'd like to be able to compeletly clear the system when a trial period runs out, reset the clock, so to speak.

Total Uninstall is very good, but it might not be able to help you there, because when a trial periode runs out additional changes will be made. If these are made in a place that was unchanged when the program was first installed, uninstalling it with TU won't do any good. You can't reset the clock then.

Total Uninstaller is free and just great- but there is also a commercial expensive, and unbeatable alternative. That is Winternals monitoring tools (filemon and regmon) which track, snapshot and compare both file and registry changes in real time. Those tools are part of Winternals Administrator Pack, although I think thay can be ordered separately.

Does'nt Nortons Cleansweep have the same funtion. It monitors installs & crates a log file of any changes. At least the last time i used it it did

BaNzI:)

filemon and regmon are GREAT toolz as Scarecrow mentioned. I use their admin pak in my day-to-day work and it simply rocks, HOWEVER if you check out the System Internals website, you'll find that these particular individual tools are freeware!!! Alhthough they are subtlely different than the 'enterprise' ones you mention, they still do a damn fine job.

Just a word of caution about the regmon util...... try running it and then simply open 'My Computer' and close it again....now check out how many entries have been made in your regmon window!!!!!!!!.......No wonder windoze is so slow.

.....you can filter and snapshot which helps a lot.

Cheerz & hope this helps.
