what is the best software to use to backup your dvd's?

i just bought my first dvd/rw drive and i want to start backing up my dvd collection before my kids ruin them. what is the best software to use. i have dvdxcopy express and dvdxcopy platinum but i read they only copy the movie only. i want all the special features copied on the disk though. i have read some reviews about dvd2one and dvdshrink. but i am unsure which way to go. personally i want everything that is on a disc to be copied. any suggestion or opinions will be appreciated.

InterVideo DVDcopy2 (easy peasy lemon squeezy)

.99b lifes to short to wait for a serial that doesn't come. Well its months and I asked 4 times and I still never got a serial. Why do you have to ask for a serial for a free program. Me thinks someone has an ego problem.

I use DVD Decrypter to rip, DVD Shrink to compress/select what I want to put into my backup DVD, or DVDFab to split a DVD9 to 2 DVDRs, and Nero to burn.

You can find excellent tutorials from these sites:

http://www.mrbass.org

http://www.doom9.org

Extras: remember to update ASPI, firmware, and buy good media (eg. Ritek).

Good luck,

thanks everyone for the info. so i guess that you can't put everything onto a dvd-r so that it is like the original. so a regular dvd movie you buy at the store is either bigger or compressed differently from what we have to buy as media (dvd-r) 4.7gb or 120 minutes of video. now ritek dvd-r's where can i get these officemax and staples don't carry them in my neck of the woods and from what i have read on this forum buying over the internet is risky as you may not get the real brand of ritek dvd-r's. still has anyone used dvdxcopy express or the platinum version with any luck? they are supposed to be fairly easy to use one button to copy a dvd. any opions on this software? thanks for the info. :)

has anyone tried khypermedia dvd-r's and if so what do you think of them? at officemax this week they are a 50 pack for $29.99 are these good media for the price? let me know what you think. thanks

I just picked up a 10 pack there for $6.48, and I burned one with no problems.

oh and from the last post before mine what is a dvd9? and why do you have to put them onto 2 dvd-r's? thanks again
a dvd9 is a dual-layered dvd, which holds ~7.91gb, as opposed to single-layered dvd5s, which hold ~4.38gb. all "regular" recordable dvds are dvd5s, so if you wanted to retain all of the original quality from a dvd9 and don't have a dual-layer burner (along with dual-layer media), you'd have to split it over two dvd5s.

as for the khypermedia question, simply knowing the brand name on the outside of the package isn't enough info to know whether or not a particular type of dvd is good. who actually manufactured them is the info you want to know. you can find a database of manufacturers for particular brands here, and you can use a program like dvd identifier to figure out who manufactured your dvds.

Because when mkisofs and cdrecord were under GPL some smartass guys violated the GPL and put them both at commercial programs without issuing the sourcecode as well- name them CDRwin or whatever else you like. pro-DVD just takes care of that small annoyance.
I don't know if herr Schilling (or whichever else you mean) has an ego problem, but it seems that someone has an emailing problem- he just cannot send a plain text formatted email. So far I've received four pro-DVD licences, waiting from 36 hours min. to five days max...
