Weird XP

Go figure. I have WinXP installed and it is working fine but has stopped doing an automatic hdd check after an improper shutdown. I normally create shortcuts to both my DVD burner and CD Burner on the desktop, then drag them to the taskbar (I do the same for C: and D: also) as this is where all of my programs reside. The shortcuts to the removable drives no longer work and no amount of deleting and re-creating corrects the problem. I have searched 'knowledgebase' without success. I'm wondering has anyone else experienced this problem. I can switch the computer off at the power supply without shutting down windows and it just reboots straight back into the operating system without diskchecking.

It seems like the registry has become corrupted, try running scandisk within windows and check the results to see if there is no damage in your hdd.

Hmmmm...................could it possibly be? I have been doing my reinstall from my recently purchased DVD-411S. I read somewhere that these drives are great for reading DVD's but not CD's. I'm wondering if it's getting all the data off the WinXp CD-Rom. A possibility you think? or am I having a lend of myself.

It is possible, now that you mention it I had similar problems with cheap drive units in the past (altough that was with win98).

Simple way to know is using another drive for the installation.
