Virus???

Hi!

OK, a friend of mine just called me and said that after he played some mp3 files he later realised that all his jpgs are linked as Visual Basic Script files and the file size is reduced to 12kb. The file extension is still jpg. I think the same with his mp3's. He has no Antivirus program so he can't scan.
I will meet him later, install some AV program and we will see what we can recover ( if we can ). So now for my question. What virus is this ( Name ) if it is but I think so. I don't have much time otherwise I would do the research by myself.

the love bug virus attacks MP3's specifically but no doubt if he got them from KAZZA or other peer to peer client it may be KLEZ searching google for "mp3 virus infections" no quotes brings back many hits for virii information thats involved with mp3 files

a visit to symantecs virii database @

will give you more information on removal of such virii

lovebug/i love you virii are one and the same as far as i know the do the same thing bind to mp3 files

glad you got it sorted drastic means but if it could not be removed then this is the only way

Do virus detectors not detect these things?

Or does he not use one?

Depends if he use's one or how old his Virus scanner is I update every night
