virtual clone drive

im very green at this stuff. what does a virtual drive do in simple words.

in basic theory it EMULATES all the functionality of a REAL drive but on the hard disk as instead of on cdrom as usually VIRTUAL drives are made with EITHER cdroms or dvd roms they are in effect copied to the hard disk as a WHOLE unit or the entire disk then everything is run like a cdrom but in a virtual /sudo or pretend enviroment on the hard disk ...allowing the disk to be accessed faster or remove the need to have the disk in the drive at all times for some games /applications or movies
