I was wondering What DVD Player Would you guys suggest to buy to play my backup copies of dvd movies on VCD i am also making some mp3 stuff and cd R/W eventually when DVD burners come down in price I will buy one of those too. I was just wanting to get the best bang for the buck I do not want to spend a lot but do not want to be a cheap a** either. any help wil be appreciated Thanks much GIL

do you mean DVD-ROM player? or Standalone DVD player?
For standalones, I would suggest you have a look in the DVD section here (as el presidente has been putting together a list). Personally I would suggest a good pioneer or something for both types.
My sony DVD-ROM also plays everything well & is fast (but had to have firmware flashed which isn't easy to do).
Other good DVD-ROM players include:
Toshiba, Lite-On, TEAC & maybe a few others. Lite-On will be the cheapest here & are a great value, however not great for reading audio CDs (copying).

I was talking about a stand alone for my tv I didnt want to go buy one only to find out it didnt play my video cd`s or mp3`s that i have backed up to cd-r media you just can not believe what the manufacturer says these days. I mean its just my luck to go buy one that says it supports cd-rs and when i get it home and try to use it I find out it will only play wave files on cd-r media. thanks for the information i am going to go check it out now Thanks again GIL
Best advice is as Joripe said, take a CDR or 2 with you and get them to try it before you buy.

I am from USA and thanks to your help i have found the dvd player i would like to try but i am not sure that its a usa model Havent heard of it before the brand name is dansai went and read some reviews and found that most people were happy because it would play everything but thought it was cheaply built but the price was also cheaper than most bit will have to see if i can find one.
