Hi Chickenman
Since my last post I have been doing a bit of experimenting to try and get a DVD burnt of some of the TV episodes I have in DIVX format. I have finally suceeded!
I found that as the TV episode files didn't have a 5.1 soundtrack, that the MP2 files that were created using AVI2DVD were sufficient enough for TmpgEnc Author to author VOB files for burning that would work on my DVD player (a PS2). When using a DIVX file that has a 5.1 soundtrack, an AC3 file is normally made automatically by AVI2DVD and I use this instead of the MP2.
However I have now run into a small problem. Every now and then, I come across a DIVX file that when converted to MPV + MP2, after running it through TmpgEnc Author, the audio is out of sync. It appears to run at a constant 1-2 seconds ahead of the video. I have tried converting the MP2 to AC3 using your guide and re-authoring but the same thing happens. When I load the source DIVX into VirtualDub, I get this error message:
'VirtualDub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI file and will rewrite the audio header with standard CBR values during processing for better compatibility. This may introduce up to 11894ms of skew fromthe video stream. If this is unacceptable, decompress the *entire* audio stream to an uncompressed WAV file and recompress with a constant bit rate encoder. (bitrate: 127.7 ± 28.7kbps)
Do you have any suggestions or answers?
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks

Scenarist question

I have been attempting to follow the excellent tutorial to convert .avi files to DVD. My version of DVD2SVCD expects Scenarist to be available and I cannot aford it!!!

Is there a (cheap) alternative please.

I do not want to do anything more than transfer the .avi movie to play it on my DVD player - sounds simple enough - help

Alan

No need to get Scenarist. Run DVD2SVCD and in the CD Image tab, tick the "Dont Make Images" option, then it wont ask you for Scenarist.
