Trillian phoning home?

Is there a way for cerulean studios to check if trillian pro is used with illegal key? Does tool phone home or is it possible to check which client someone in the chat is using? So that they can see that I'm using Trillian Pro with a self-made key (without paying for it 25us$)

Thanks

didnt u mean that it phones home? im talking about how will they know your phone #
HHH_THE_GAME,

Whenever you see somebody say "phone home" it means that the software (once installed on your system) makes a routine communication to the company that made the product via the internet (when you are logged on). You do not have to worry about any calls being placed to your house.

It is a way of tracking their software and de-activating it should it be a pirated copy. It is becoming a common practice among many software companies.

If I'm saying that wrong then somebody please correct me.

YIKES

As simple as CALL HOME is it is confusing?

Acoustica CD Label Maker 1.19 DOES calls home when installing PRE entering S/N. It leaves files in TEMP folders too. Nice not to be connected online doing any of that stuff. Sygate does let me know someone is calling home occasionally. Can be any regular legit stuff too for upgrades.

by disabling "check for update" & "send user statistic" programs stops to contact ceruleanstudios.com.

But is it possible to see which chat-client is used by one on my buddies? Is it that way possible for ceruleanstudio to verify that I'm using Trillian Pro??

Thanks

i think no ! because if they would spy on users of their software - noone would you this software in future or buy it ....

@Joripe, you mean there is away to check in the chat which client is uzsed by which user??

If this is the case, nobody should used an illegal Trillian Pro, I guess?!?

Personal Firewall...cough...Kerio Personal Firewall...cough...Free...cough ;)

A personal firewall is the best way to know if a proggie is phoning home...for example... "867-5309..." (a little 80's humor) ;)

Well, tested it with several firewalls, after disabling "send user statistic" & "check for updates" Trillian didn't try to contact author anymore.

Could anybody verify my tests? Because if that is the case, there is no phone-home for serial-check but only for getting updates, which can be disabled in the tool without having to block anything with the firewall!

Thanks

I think they are more interested in how you are useing their software this helps them in marketing and sales. All other information is just gravey on their potatoes and is not pointed to any one particular just general info. Of course if they should happen to spot an illegal copy it's dead on the spot.
