tiny system and ram

my daughter has got an old tiny system which is a bit slow, i think its a celeron 800 mhz pro with on board graphics.
just purchased 512 meg of sdram to give it a little boost but it only shows as 256.
the model is an 810l

if i update the bios would this help if so any idea where i can find a bios update.....thanx

Bad news, checked the Crucial configurator and:

Important information about your computer
Your system only supports modules made with a specific type of chips. While you might find what appears to be the exact same memory for a lower price elsewhere, the cheaper memory might not work in your system.

It lists only 128MB modules and a max of 256MB

The actual motherboard also seems to be rather uncertain, so there may be further differences.
