Had this problem too !? is it SVCD format !?
i downloaded STHSVCD player i cannot remember the website but its freeware try searching google :)

it resovled my green screen problem :)

try loading the avi into Virtualdub and previewing it. If the colours are normal then there is a priority error in your media player.

albedo039 ,
i load the movie in virtualdub and it was good , so what does it mean when you said: "there is a priority error in your media player" i dont know what it means , can you explain it to me and can you also please tell me how to fix it ?

@fibola
it means that your media player is playing the avi with a DivX codec and not through Xvid, even thought the XviD codec might be on your system. What media player are you using?

dumped a few avi rips.
i dl quite a few the picture is a green oblong, then you get a few bits that can be seen with slow motion type colours.
the ones i got were from china.yet got the same from elsewhere they played perfect & yes the avis were the same as dumped ones.
i have the nimo pack thanks to woody but only installed the ones needed.
i even tried converting it from avi to vcd with nero.they were still the same & playing upside.
i didnt even bother backing any more of these ones as the first one backed up was the same.
my advise is dump it,& try again from else where.
worth dl avipreview as you can check the dl even with it still dling.
saved me a lot of bandwith.
& avipreview is freeware.

Don't dump these files. The vids are OK, just XVids.

Here's how to convert them to VCD/SVCD if you can't watch them in XVid ...

i) Load the AVI into virtualdub.
ii) Start a frameserver.
iii) Load the frameserved file into TMPGEnc and encode as usual to whatever you want VCD/SVCD.

Vdub will provide TMPGEnc with the properly decoded data and it'll encode away ....

you can find more the info here
h**p://www.dvdrhelp.com/virtualdubframeserve.htm

I've used this many times and every time it has worked.
