I finally decided to dump my ultra-finicky Sony DRU500A (since it only does 4X about 50% of the time that it should... and that's using Riteks!). I picked up the TDK804G which is a rebadged Plextor 708A. This drive positively rocks! It writes to everything I've thrown at it, and it does 8X and all of the 4X +R's that I've tried. I burned a filled disc in 7:02! Unbelievable. And the best part is that JandR.com has them on a $40 rebate.
Anyway... I'm very happy with the switch.
