System restarted itself..

Hello!
I am facing a typical problem - For all my normal usuage, my computer is ok but as soon as I starts a game, any game ie oldies like Need For Speed IISE, Recoil or new ones like Need for Speed VII, Harry Potter, Max Payne, my computer restarts itself after sometime say 5-6 in. I have verified the CD at a friend's place - its ok but I dont know why this is happening at my place.
My System is PIV 2.4Ghz, Intel original M/B, 256MB DDR, and the usual stuff.
Any help/suggestion is always welcome.....
Regards.

Not a big gamer here, but is it possiblle that a game itself needs a more power(ram??)......Btw happened to me once when i installed by mistake some """"detonators"""drivers for nvidia??

Are you getting any error codes/reports ?

What OS system are you running ?

Is it all games or just a specific type i.e OpenGL ?

Sorry forgot the write the OS - Its Win98se and Win XP Prof. both.
Game requiring more power ie RAM - Not so as tested on 128 DDR, Celeron 1.7GHz with Intel 845GLAD and working fine.
Video Card getting hot - Its Intel original M/B so graphics is onboard.
Error Codes/Reports - None, as soon as icon of game is clicked its restarts itself.
Its with all the games except builtin of Microsoft ie Freecell, Solitaire etc.
Overheating - Seems so. a) Had fixed additional fan on the cabinet b) Removed the cover and kept it open c) Removed the heatsink and applied more and evenly the thermal paste. etc.
After doing all this still facing the same problem.
Thanks for help.

Regards.

Try turning of the "Automatic Restart" in XP
(Start > R-Click My Comp > Properties > Advanced > Start up & Recovery settings > Auto restart)
You should get some kind of error report then

Its already off....and no errors. Had reinstalled both the OS still same problem. Thinking of taking my computer to Intel guys to do the needful.
Thanks for all the help.

Regards.

Have you intalled the latest drivers for chipset, sound and vga?

Don´t just stay with the ones that came with your mobo go to intel site and get the latest version.

I was going to guess that the PSU was fading under increased load as the graphics accelerator demand increases, but for onboard Intel, that's not likely to be much.

Might also be worth checking if the 3dmark tests - 99, 2000, 2001 (not 2003 - it won't have the muscle for it) cause the same kind of crash

You CAN still get the obsolete tests.
