I have that one as well but it don´t find as much junk as Sys Mech does..:)
And I don´t like Norton therefore no problems for me.

Jv16 is a safer bet for the registry.I have found that Sys.M. is too powerful with the reg.scan.You can remove needed program entries.

I use Sys.M for fixing/deleting broken shortuts,removing useless files etc.it is great!

So I use both,Jv16 for the registry, and Sys.M for the other options.

One other thing...I don't use the remove duplicate files often with Sys.M,unless I'm sure I can remove them safely.Especially with Win 98,there are intentional backups of many files.;)

Please, keep in mind that JV16 is STILL IN BETA stage, and the author's advise is: DON'T DELETE ANYTHING from the registry cleaner of JV16. Instead, one should use the GOOD OLD WONDERFUL regcleaner, by the same author.
Just my 2 cents...

You are right Woody. But as always when you mess with the registry you have to do some things manually. I always check the keys claimed to be not valid and if a key seems strange then it may stay. And important is the undo feature. So far I have never had any problems with Sys Mech.

Good advice Lazorman!I know of a few people who have deleted good reg.keys with it.It appears that is possible with any reg cleaner as Pandashit just mentioned.

System Mechanic is an excellent tool for sure!:)

The problem for regcleaners is that many apps use keys that don´t follow the rules for how a key should be constructed. Protections are examples of this. Manufacturers creates keys exclusively made for their own soft. When a cleaner scan the registry it has to look for invalid and bad keys and if a key looks strange it will be deleted. Some cleaners just ignore this keys to be safe from deleting used keys. Others list these keys as well and let the user decide what to do. IMO this is the best procedure. Strange keys that are left behind when not used any more are together with keys not removed when programs are uninstalled the largest source for junk in the registry. If a cleaner is to safe this junk will never be found.
