System infected despite anti-virus

Need your help. I have F-secure anti-virus running on my win xp and update it regularly (everyday) but still my system is infected. Actions done Disinfect auto and delete auto and still is infected. What shall I do? Reformat and reinstall my OS? One of the viruses is a backdoor program.
Thanks.

Hi yeah...hold one tick bro before you format, what virus is it?
You may be able to download a tool just for this virus (what ever it may be) which will remove the infection,
One other thing well few a turn off you system restore point if it's on (as the virus will or may well be here to) then run your antivirus or virus tool.
If supportted try running in DOS some anitvirus allow you to run in safe mode and in dos.
As you did not list your so called virus we can't go into any indepth detail..Some programs are over active when scanning for virus etc yours may be the case.
Anyway look here as one source for removal tools
Good luck.

how many files does your anti virus say are infected if its more than 100 or more system files, then it will prolly be best to format and start over.

I recently delt with a system that had almost 2000 infected files i did not even bother trying to cure it seemed pointless and that was protected by anti virus too but the user did not know how to use the anti virus and failed to quarantine the problematic file and it ran wild through the entire system :(

so was quicker to FORMAT and start over .... one good reason to backup critical /important files :)

Thank you so much for the replies. I have under 20 files infected and I have some files deleted automatically. It's weird coz' for the past few days no new anti-virus files are available while my other computer running on win 98se is able to update new files. What's wrong? And how shall I use this removal tools? Turn off my f-secure and run this tool? Or shall I install Norton instead?

Just scanned my system and found two backdoor programs undeleted:

bi.dll (win32.bispy.b) and biprep.exe

Can't find these on removal tools.

bi.dll and bipred.exe r not viruses, they are adware/spyware, u probly have web pages popping open for no reason with this program running. downlaod a copy of spybot search and destroy and run it, after running it reboot ur computer and either run it again or delete ur TEMP folder

Thank you but where can I download this spybot and why is my 98se able to download new anti-virus files while my xp has no new available files? When using my xp, I sometimes check my F-secure program and says 5-15 files are infected but when I scanned it manually, only 2 shows up as undeleted. Umm.

Thanks, got it. Runned it and fixed it. But it's still weird coz sometimes when I restart my computer, my anti-virus prog still shows these 2 files, bi.dll and bi.exe and sometimes they don't show up. Uhmm, it's driving me nuts.

I don't know but I uninstalled my F-secure and installed Norton instead and everything is gone except this annoying backweb id no. xxxx (runtime error)keeps popping up everytime I reboot. It only happened when I used this spybot search & destroy which works and thank you for recommending it to me. Anyways, it's working so far and no more infected files per Norton scan.

Again, thank you guys for helping me out. I didn't have to reformat my hd which saved me a lot of time.

Got rid of this annoying runtime error "backweb id no. xxx". Now I have Norton anit-virus installed, how do I enable auto protect so that at start-up, it is automatically enabled. I already ticked "enable auto protect" but still I have to manually enable it on the system tray. Thanks.

I did check or tick "enable auto protect" already and pressed Ok. Is that how to save the settings coz I did that too but still I have to do it manually. Im using 2002 by the way. Thanks.

Forget it. It's on now. Thanks again.

did you have norton installed before? if so it may not have been completely uninstalled i.e old registry keys left from before. simply uninstalling norton with the unisntaller in the program itself or using add/remove doesnt work. you need to download RNAV and RNIS run them then try to re-install. i had the same problem before and that corrected it. i will attach the files here. once downloaded rename the files by deleting the .zip from the end of them before you run them
