Sorry But Nero Lost It!

Ok I went onto Nero's homepage just now and came across 2 New apps there.
SIPPS The Ultimate Voice Over IP Software for your PC. and NeroROBO the ultimate software for your CD/DVD duplicator. Well that how NeroT is plugin it.
Ok I don't care to know much about Nero (Ahead) but what has Voice Over IP got to do with burning they can't get there Burning apps right now! And this so called NeroROBO
....Practical, ultra-fast and totally uncomplicated - NeroROBO is the ultimate software for the fully automatic burning and printing of larger amounts of CDs.
Yeah right!
I have no idea how Good Nero is now but I do know how Bad it is from many reports out on the web;)
NeroROBO
Supported CD/DVD duplicators

Roboflex 1/24 (TEAC) with up to 50 CD capacity

Roboflex 2/24 (TEAC) with up to 50 CD capacity

Composer CD Duplikator(Primera) with up to 50 CD capacity

Roboflex Plus/24 (TEAC) with up to 100 CD capacity

ComposerPro CD Duplikator (Primera) with up to 100 CD capacity

ComposerPlus CD/DVD Duplikator (Primera) with up to 100 CD capacity

Back to SIPPS this is what NeroT got to say about this.....
SIPPS is an incredibly powerful software product that will convert your PC into a functional telecommunications exchange. It offers you all the features you would expect to find in a modern ISDN telephone.

With SIPPS, you can hold telephone conferences, record conversations, redirect calls and lots more. A unique coding technology allows you to phone via the Internet in absolute privacy. An integrated answering machine is, of course, just as much standard as the call redirection function.

Dont just take our word for it - test SIPPS yourself and you will soon be convinced of its quality and reliability.
I like the bit about "Dont just take our word for it"
Anyways just share my small findings with ya all laters.....:D ;)

Sorry But Nero Lost It!

I agree, Nero lost it for me ages ago. Ever since V 4.99 all they have done is totally mess it up, fiddling with this, that and the other and bringing out one version after another trying to get rid of all their own self induced bugs.
It seemed to me that at one time they were releasing a new version every other week and they had people rushing about trying to find the latest MP3 plugins etc to work with their latest offering.
I suppose they're like the soap powder manufacturers, always changing the content to kid the punters that they are buying a new and better product when in reality what works for most sane people is the version that is stable on their machine and does what they want it to do.

Any Nero fans disagree or have you stuck with Nero since it was
packed in the box when you bought your CDR/CDRW drive and you haven't yet tried any other program?

Well, I got a new Liteon the other day and the supplied software (you've guessed it) Nero, didn't even recognise the drive it was supplied with.

I rest my case.

Agreed!

It seems Nero Burning Rom is living up to its namesakes reputation.....Emperor Nero who fiddled while Rome burned in 64 A.D. Many historians say that Rome was never quite the same after that. So also did Ahead fiddle with Nero 5.0 and it was never quite the same after that.

Looks like staff at AHEAD are getting Head:D ...As you know I'm not a Nero fan but they should get their act together for the Nero fans out here not for them to B beta tester. Ok new H/W comes out every other week it seems but they should get it right for older H/W..and if shipped with new H/W make sure you don't go looking for an update B4 you can use the dam thing!

@concord..... what do you burn mostly?

For me:

1) Exact Audio Copy for audio extraction and burning

2) Burnatonce for data, mp3 CD, ISO, BIN/CUE burning

3) Alcohol 120% for 1:1 and copy protected CDs

Now, I don't burn any video CDs, but I'm sure somebody who does will chime in..... right guys ;)

u think this has any thing remotly related with the "robot-error.log" file that nero makes when you have burnt a nero image file !?

just a thought :)

Good Question

i want a serious/technical answer. Just about any burning software works on my comp.
p0rkus,

Same here, just about any software works on my system (except CDRWin, but I won't get into that).

I have wondered which burnig app would best help secure my data because that's what I burn the most. I would LIKE to be using Burnatonce for this, though the CDRDAO engine has some difficulty with my CDRW drive for adding extra sessions to a multisession. So, my second choice is Nero. It works, it's fairly fast, and very simple to use.

Now, I really can't speak technically, though I wish I could. The only suggestion I have for checking errors with your burns would be a program like CDCheck. It's freeware and dxkim says he uses it routinely; he and RASTABT posted it in the freeware section.

And here's a quote from Pokopiko after asking for his thoughts on how best to acheive data verification:
--- "Data verification with the above programs [Nero, CloneCD, CDMate, CDRwin, and many others] should always be performed with a CD-ROM, and NOT a burner. the safest method is actually comparing burned vs. HD data with a folder synchronization utility/CRC checker (e.g. the synch part of the terrific Total Commander filemanager)."

I hope this info helps, even though you were probably hoping for a quick answer that says which software outshines the rest in the "data burning" catagory (like I said, I have been wondering the same). Until somebody can provide a technical explanation for using one program over another, I'll just stick with Nero because it seems to work for me. For all other burning (mp3, images, and audio) I use nothing but Burnatonce.

hah, used nero for eons on a stupid amount of systems/cdrs with absolutely no problems at all, whatsoever.

I'd love to hear one of the pack cite a specific problem with this wonderful app, rather than posting ROOFLES!!!! and crap about how LAME! it allegedly is.

hmm.

Thanks for the reply Wedge. btw, why & how was pokopiko banned?? (the answer could be pm to me). He was quite knowledgeable.

Roofles and coasters are not the same thing- they may be for you, though- or so it seems. Its quite an interesting approach, really.

No, you misunderstand.

I'm well aware what a 'coaster' is. What I meant was that lota of people on this forum seem to constantly slag nero off, and I almost guarantee that it isn't nero's fault, it's theirs. Another thing I've noticed is how any complaints about nero from the people on this board seem massively unspecific. I'm aware that a few of the mods here are incredibly anti-nero, and I can't help but wonder if a good percentage of the 'i hate nero too... it's soooooo lame!@!1' posts are made by dumb kids in an effort to impress.

As I stated earlier, I've used and installed nero on a wide variety of systems, and never, ever had a problem with it.

Specifics?

I agree that most Nero problems come out of a bad serial, bad installation or overlapping registry entries. But that said Nero is not exactly the definition of bugfree software- rather the opposite. You can find instances in the past where nero versions were wroking almost perfectly (eg 5.0.2.4 or 5.0.4.8), but currently the Nero crew seems more interested in introducing useless toys for kids (Nerovision, Nero Express...) than doing some real bugfixing.
personally i prefer using frontends of opensource applications like cdrecord or CDRDAO (for example the wonderful Burnatonce frontend) or mastering apllications that have not been developed for years (for example the coaster proof Prassi/Veritas/Stomp/whatever... RecordNow) which may offer just a fraction of the Nero options, but they WORK- stable, confident, smooth.

I don't wanna slag off Nero,in fact,I still use it on my windows 2000 partition, but here are some specifics.......no bashing from a crewmember, but clear facts from the developement team itself......just read the bugfixes...;)......btw,they mostly can fix their bugs, because they actually read cdrforums....:D

All I ever use nero for is either data cds, or mp3 -> audio cds.

Yes, there are reams of bugfixes, but I wonder if they are probs that a tiny minority of people would ever notice... I dunno.

Basically, I've never had any problems at all with nero, nor has anyone I know. That's why I recommend it. What I'm still waiting to see, really, is someone saying 'bah, I tried to do *this* with nero and it just never worked properly... so I tried (eg) cdrwin instead, and it works just fine'. I wanna see something verifiable. A problem that myself and others can recreate.

Not being funny, just never ever ever saw any examples of this. Anywhere.
