slipstreaming xp/sp1 question

Can anyone help me understand what the following is about: I found a rar-file named sp1_pid. It contained three files named pidgen.dll, dpcdll, and a readme text doc. The read me file says the following -

Slipstream files for SP1 and XP1 Corp
-------------------------------------

1. Perform a normal slipstream update with your Corp/DevilsOwn XP
2. Copy these two files into your \I386 directory and overwrite the existing files.
3. Burn CD!

I have read the different tutorial on slipstreaming but have not found if in fact this process is needed. I did slipstream according to two different tutorials and found the pidgen.dll file to be the same in the two slipstreamed versions. They are different in size than the original devilsown xp by 4or 5 kbs. When I replaced them with the onces included in the sp1_pid rarfile, they again changed in size by 3 or 4 kbs. Anyone know what this is about and also is it needed? Just trying to get educated. Appreciate any help. Thanks

Thanks for your reply incognito. I reviewed the instructions you offered. Looks good. I had hoped for more of a technical reply from the forum, oh well. Appreciate the interest.

Sounds like w@rez; this is an attempt to break the PID generation DLL checking of the Leaked "DevilsOwn"/Disney VL Key.

Best to use your own copy of XP and slipstream it normally.

:)

Thanks IPDave. I assumed it was an attempt to control the pid process. Also read something that said to change two files in the sp1 to pidgen.dll and the other to dpcdll. That's what caught my eye - both attempts deal with the same named files. Was just trying to understand the attempt. Thanks everyone for responding.

The link MIT gave to the bootcd process is good. You can look in Technet on the MS site, just search on slipstream.

Quick and dirty:
1. Extract the SP1 to a folder.
2. Create two folders on a hd, one such as PRO_CD and another as HOME_CD.
3. Copy the MSDN i386 folder for the PRO to the PRO_CD folder, and the i386 folder for the MSDN Home to the HOME_CD folder you made.
4. Go to the SP1 folder where you extracted SP1 to - the i386\update folder.
5. Run: update -s:C:\PRO_CD to update the Pro. If C: is not your drive letter, use whatever. When finished, run: update -s:C:\HOME_CD.
6. Make an ISO image of your original MSDN with Winimage or WinISO. Open the original image, find the Pro and Home I386 folders and delete them. Copy in the patched i386 folders.
7. Copy in the other files from the root of each folder (PRO_CD and HOME_CD) to the root of the MSDN image - I don't have the MSDN version, so you may have to look to see if there is a subfolder with its own setup folder for the Home version.

That is a quick overview.
