setting default dvd decoder in WMP9

in wmp you can go to tools then options select file types and uncheck dvd video and any other files you dont want wmp to use as default. this way windvd can play your dvd . Yet another tip is to explore you drive where the dvd is select a vob file right click onto the vob file and select Open with.... then locate the program you want to play your dvd......Here you have an option to always use this program to open this kind of file to.

no, i mean to set which dvd codec WMP9 will use to play dvd & svcd. cineplayer 1.5 is really resource light when it comes to playing dvd. so i prefer to use it over windvd. cineplayer, however, cannot play svcd files. What i did was extract the video & audio filters from the windvd installer. manually register the two files with regsvr32. when i open wmp, in the option, there's a dvd tab & wmp can play dvds & svcd. before registering these two files, there's no such tab. then i went on to install cineplayer. the dvd tab is still there. i click on advanced settings, it shows cineplayer's codec rather than windvd. so wmp uses cineplayer's codec instead of windvds..so it can't play svcds. what i want to do it set wmp to use windvd's codec as default. not ceinplayer's. Any help is appreciated.

Can't see why the cineplayer filter would not playback SVCD's... I mean MPEG2 is MPEG2.
Ok, did some testing. The filter playsback SVCD's fine in media player classic, due to native riff/cdxa support. I guess the intervideo filter also has such support.
The cineplayer filter also worked fine with wmp and graphedit, however after I unregistered the mode2cdmaker riff/cdxa filter (xcdsrc.ax) it no longer worked.
So why don't you just use mpc or install the riff/cdxa parser filter? This would enable any MPEG2 decoder filter to playback SVCD's whether it has in build riff/cdxa parsing or not.
xcdsrc.ax also has the added advantage of allowing you to play other media files burn as mode2 form2 in any directshow player.
