SATA Problems with Plextor PX-712SA

Can anyone offer advice on how to set up my W2k (service pack4) and/or BIOS for a Plextor DVD Model: PX-712SA.

During the boot-up the Plextor is recognised and displayed on the screen but during the loading of W2K then a windows error message appears "Inaccessible_boot_device" and the W2K sits waiting for the system to be reset.
The motherboard is Gigabyte GA7V600P-RZ K7/S/LAN with South Bridge VIA VT8237 & North Bridge VIA KT600. The CPU is an AMD 2.6 Athlon.
My HDD is a Seagate 80 gig SATA on channel 0. The PX-712SA is connected to SATA channel 1. There is also a Hitachi DVD ROM connected as IDE 1 master.
Without the PX-712SA connected the system works fine.
Any suggestions on what to do to correct the problem.

Moved to Windows Operating Systems, since it seems to be that kind of problem.

Are you certain that you have the SATA channels the right way round, it sounds like it's trying to boot the DVD-R first.
