I have had the same problem where CDRW cannot read any CD or DVD. Have tried audio, data, cleaner CDs and a DVD. Device manager says device is working properly. Have reinstalled drivers, restored system to before problem arose. When opening the CDRW from My Computer the window opens and shows a blank (white) panel instead of the contents of the disc in the drive. Even when the drive is empty it does not ask for a disc to be inserted (unlike the floppy drive, for example).
I have also installed the firmware update for the Samsung CDRW/DVD SM-308B and this did not work.
I tried all the trouble shooting......xcopy & copy in the dos prompt window and get the message that the 'system cannot find specified file'
This did not work.
