Samsung 48x and audio CD problem

mp3 files that are burned to a audio CD when played back start out somewhere in the middel of the track.
I noticed the buffer gauge showing between 10 and 80% full as oppose to staying around 95% as in the past with my TDK 12x burner and others before that. Data CD's seem fine.

2k w/sp3, AMD 2100b, 512MB 333 memory, nForce2 chipset.

Any ideas?

Nero V551015

Update on the problem:

When I play the first track only the last 90 seconds is played. If I let it continue, the next track palys within what shopuld be the first track! When I play the last track, the last 90 seconds of that track is played and then there is silence for what should be the rest of the selection. Almost as the CD is out of sync with the start and end of each track!

Now I am getting buffer underruns galore! Unless I drop the record speed down to 8x that record buffer guage still fluctuates between 6 and 98%, but even then it still comes up a buffer underrun.
DMA is enabled BTW.

Have U recenly upgraded Nero?.I know that they had 2 post a fix cause the neroCD95.vxd was bugged & caused probs.Or have U installed any other burning s/w??

BaNzI:)

I have the most recent version. I do have another program but I haven't use it yet. The problems happened BEFORE I was tring other burning programs.

I swapped the 2 burners between the two boxes and the TDK 12x burns ok, but still struggles in the nForce2 board but the Samsung 48x burns without a glitch in the older KT133 board!

There seems to be a issue with this chipset!

have U tried the latest n-force drivers, not had much experiance of that mobo.Is the drive jumpered correctly or is there any settings in the bios rlated 2 the ide bus.

If any1 else here can help??Is the drive master on its own ide or is it connected toHD??

Hope U get the info U need

buffer under runs are usually caused by too much hard disk activity !? have u got anything else running at the same time ?! anti virus !? firewalls etc etc !? are u burning the mp3's from hard disk or from a cd full of mp3s spooling from the disk !?

have you tried downgrading nero !? i still use nero 5.5.9.0 as i find this more stable than any other version ?!

Are you using disks that are rated for the speed of your burner !?

Is your hard disk defragged recently !?

Have You got BUFFER UNDER-RUN enabled !? if not then you may suffer badly from under runs as most HI - SPEED drives suffer with this problem !?

How big is the drives internal buffer !? some come with just 800k which isnt really enough to cope with hi speed burns feeding the flow of data to the lazer !?

Yeah loads of questions asked but ALL relevant :)

No programs running and onl;y 14 processes running (all Windows) this is 2k BTW.

I have the latest version: V5.5.10.15 It's been uninstalled and reinstalled.

I have tried different disks. It will only burn as fast as the disk allows anyway.

Yes, it is defragged.

There is no "Buffer Under-run enabled" control in the program.

It has a 8MB buffer!

Update:
I swapped the drives between the two boxes and the Sansung works perfect in the older KT133 MB! The TDK does burn ok on the nForce2 MB but it is struggleing to do the job as evedent by the recoed buffer and the used buffer bar graphs!

There must be some issue with the nForce2 chipset and burning!

If its a newish drive , the buffer protection option is in the recorder\choose recorder box in nero, just click options, but that page will tell U if the drive has it.It should have if it is 48x

Hope it helps

I re-installed the O/S on the 2nd bootable HDD without the nForce2 UDP with only the video driver and I get the same problem; another coaster! So it isn't the IDE driver deal!

Now what? I did notice when I ran a benchmark program (Preformance Test V4) to check the HDD's and CD drives I got 90% CPU usage durning the test on the fresh install, whereas on the orginal drive it was 0%!

Do U now get the options in nero 4 switching on buffer underun.I not got 1 of those boards yet , but i remember there was some driver probs.Did U format or reinstall windows. If U format U will have 2 check DMA option again. If it is a new board i suggest taking it back as it sounds if its screwed

Sorry cant be more help.I got a liteon52xcdrw & the cpu usage with it is allways at full tilt(100%)

This CPU usage was durning testing with that benchmark program and only on one drive! It isn't a MB issue it is software!

BTW, 2k has no SW IDE drivers for those of you who run XP!

Problem solved!

The connector at the MB on the CD IDE cable apparently wasn't seated properly! I checked everything else but that.

A Reminder Of The Rulez

Errors Check

1) Was It The Nerd On The Keyboard (Operator Error)
Includes Restarting The Puter
2) Is The S/Ware Installed Correctly
3) Firmware??
4) Check The Hardware
(i) Leads/jumpers
(ii) Cards In Slots Correctly
(iii) IRQ Conflict
(iv) Swop Individual Hardware To Check If They Work Properly

Then All the Fancy Stuff I know F*** All About

But U can bet that in MOST cases by the time U get to IRQ The problem Is Solved;)
